Question Haven't heard about Shrewsbury?

Before asking, I looked at all the past posts and couldn't find any info on Shrewsbury. So what do you all say? I know it is affordable for us but what is it like as a community, shopping for basics, high school, crime recreation? Yes, I did look at all the sights for the town, but you know I have to ask the experts at City-Data! We are also looking at Westborough,Southborough and Hingham and believe it or not, have found plenty of nice houses in most of these towns under $500K!

It is a nice town. However, it is more of a suburb to Worcester instead of Boston. When you are looking at houses, ask a realtor about which section of town fits you better; North or South. I don't think they like each other.

Not much hoopla. Same old story. The North side has newer or more expensive homes. Newer wealthier people come in town. They want new schools and more services. Hence, standard argument regarding pushing the older resident with fixed income out when you raise property taxes 2X .

Hi BrandiWorc,

Besides Rt 9 and the town center of Shrews, are there any other areas with stores in the town?

Thanks..

Hello Ny'er! May I extend a big warm welcome to you from Massachusetts! I read the posts here & I couldn't help but throw my 2 cents in, or is that five! Anyway, I find Shrewsbury to be a wonderful community.I worked in Shrewsbury for a number of years.I always found most people from Shrewsbury very friendly.I What is most important to you & your family? does it have to be one of those areas specifically? Are you looking for a country small town feel besides the suburban sprawl here? There are several towns that come to mind depending on your tastes.Shrewsbury is a very nice urbanish community, with a lot of expensive homes in the latter yrs. There is plenty of shopping in town for whatever your needs are. They also have their own municipal light co. not a big deal that's just how it is.You can certainly buy a very nice home in Shrewsbury for that is under 500.00k! But you can also find plenty in other towns here as well if that is your price range! If you state some more criteria would like to chime in more.anyway,I hope this helps some. Not sure about this NorthVs.South stuff, think's it's nonsense.I never got that feeling at all, just one of those things if you happen to live in wharever part of town ,etc; nothing bad from my view.I don't know about Worc. being a happening place either! You have the dcu center to catch all the celebrity's & stuff, there's bars all over the city (not my thing) there's some good quality restaurants in the city.I persoanlly would never want to live in the city of Worcester again compared to what you can get with your tax rate in other outlying communities, but that's just my opinion.

Umm. You go to Shrewsbury for parties? Is that how you know there are weed, weed, and weed? Do you mean only classmates (from Notre Dame) that lives in Shrewsbery have weeds (but not Worcester)? or Are your friends in Shrewsbury that cannot get into Notre Dame have weeds? or Are you saying Worcester public school or Worcester kids do not have any weed or alcohol?

I often wonder what Worcester offer that is fun or what you would consider as fun in Worcester. Can you give 5 examples?

no i know there is alot of that type of stuff at shrewsbury, theres been alot of drug busts, and alot of my friends do do that type of thing and id rather u do not imply i do without knowing me. im not saying theres more weed in shrewsbury then worcester, but to tell you the truth, shs is more the CENTER of the action, where in worcester its spread throughout the schools. There are parties, of which i normally don't attend, trust me im not some lost soul teenager out to get high and drunk, and im not perfect either, but you obviously aren't my age, and you look at things from an "kids these days" point of veiw, what you need to realize is that we know more about the real world then you Mr. SMarty, you may think you've lived it, but you have no idea, if you have kids, chances are they won't tell you the truth about what they r gunna do on a friday night. I know how things work, and I'm not afraid to let people know, cuz it needs to be told, cuz kids my age, alot of them are going downhill; and im not going to be part of it.
Back to the main topic... Worcester is great, well for me at least, i have my job here, well, both jobs i have, along with theres alot of movie theaters, bowling places, coffee shops ect. . Lake park, along with others offer a fun place to relax take a walk, theres a beach there. Downtown worcester has alot to offer, if your looking for jewerly at a REALLI GOOD price, theres kim's gold in the midtown mall, along with a silver store, they make persoanlized jewelry along with the common stuff and only charge 15$ a gram for gold. WOrcester itself doesnt have a MAIN shopping center, but its only 15 minutes to millbury mall, and 45 from natick, and hardly traffic when i go. If you're looking for anything specific, just ask and ill be happy to answer.
