Friday's edition of the Boston Herald now has a separate section within the housing listings for "55 and over" communities. Nothing is located within Plymouth that I know of, but neighboring Middleborough and Carver and Taunton all contain complexes consisting of everything from modular houses to condos and cottages. There's also a large development "up the road a piece" in Hingham called Linden Ponds (?) which, for good or bad depending on your perspective, has proven hugely popular and now has a waiting list.
Since "housing authority" conjures up images of "the projects," people tend to think negatively of municipally-managed senior citizen apartments. But these buildings more often than not are quite nice places to live. Check with Plymouth's housing authority and/or Council on (bad word coming up) Aging and see what they have to offer. You might be surprised, and pleasantly so. Best o'luck!
