Hello,
My wife and I are moving back to the Boston metro area for work (from San Diego) and are wondering what areas may be best for young professionals (late 20's-mid 30's) and young families. We have heard of the following but do not know much detail about any of them specifically. Marblehead Melrose Salem Stoneham Reading/N. Reading Does anyone have recommendations regarding these areas? We like a vibrant community but also very safe, close to shops/restaurants, etc... Thank you! |

that probably depends on where will you be working and how long of a commute are you willing to endure. Do you need public transportation nearby? If you give more details, you might get better answers. Arlington is a great town based on your requirements so far, and it's very close to Boston.

I work from home (need to be relatively close to the airport) and my wife will most likely working the cambridge/malden area. We don't need to be withing walking distance to the T...but a close drive to a station or commuter rail would be nice.
Thanks! |

You mentioned Melrose...we love it here - very nice community, friendly, lots of walking/running around town, cute and convenient downtown. Getting to the airport is very easy and fast and Malden is right next door. So, based on the requirements you mentioned, it seems perfect.
What we don't have here that some find important are big lawns (most lots average 1/3 acre or so), "top" schools (not to knock ours, but they are not on the the top lists for MCAS, etc), or a fancy reputation. For our family, this town has been welcoming, fun, and very accessible to Boston (easy by commuter rail, the T in Malden or by car) for work or recreation. good luck! |

I've got to agree with mcsummer. Melrose is a wonderful town. It was voted Best of Boston for places to live for people with young families.
