Default Good Schools/Homes Chelmsford Area

My husband is considering a job offer in Chelmsford. We'd be relocating from a very low cost of living in MO . Can anyone tell me where good schools/homes are for families? I've never even been to MA and am slightly FREAKED! HELP!!!

Hi There, I am actually leaving Chelmsford, MA (renting in an apartment.). Compared to MO it is very expensive, but prices have come down a bit recently. You can get a 3 bed ranch home here between 350-400K. They range anywhere in age from 30-60 years. There are still some generous lot sizes to be had. The schools in Chelmsford are ranked well for the north shore. I'm not quite sure of the stats and figures, but I know the area has become highly sought. The area is convenient. There is a commuter rail in nearby Lowell. And Chelmsford is just off Rtes 3 and 495 which give access to 95 and 93. Backroads 4 and 27 are scenic in the fall. One thing I'll miss about Chelmsford is that it is SO family oriented. If you have young children, they'll enjoy two libraries (they offer activities) and other areas. My two favorite playgrounds are Friendship park and Varney in North Chelmsford. Lots of shopping and nearby Nashua, NH (which is taxfree). Sure, New England has its quirks. It's not known for being the friendliest of areas (outwardly anways) but it has a good school system and lots of charm. I'll miss it here. Please feel free to PM me if you need any other help. I'd be happy to provide more insight.

Thanks Claresmom! We have 3 girls ages 11, 2, 8 mos. I'm going to be staying at home with the kids which won't give me a lot of opportunity to meet folks. That's one of my biggest concerns about moving to the area. I've heard people aren't very friendly. I'm hoping there will be a playgroup, mothers of preschoolers group or something where I can make a friend or two. I'll have no friends or family in the area, but it's a move we really need to make.
