Really? Do you live there? We've been thinking of moving there. Is it very "small townsy?"

Judging by what you say here, Springfield itself is not what you're looking for. It is a city rather than a small town. Not a large city, but still a city. And for the most part Springfield is a run-down, crime-ridden city at that. I can't explain the vote in that article, other than the fact that I noticed that there hadn't been a lot of votes cast at the time the link was provided to the article, so maybe a relatively small number of votes from some Springfield residents who feel an affection for the city because it is, after all, their home, could have skewed the results.

That said, there are some nice towns in the general area of west-central MA, including some suburbs of Springfield with good reputations (though I personally am unfamiliar with the Springfield 'burbs). If you provide some details about what you're looking for, people should be able to suggest some towns in that general area.

Springfield is not run down or crime ridden.

Ridiculous statement. It's the fourth largest city in New England, of course it has some level of crime - all cities do. Only suckers who believe the media hype (and who don't actually live here) think it's crime ridden. There are plenty of great places to live in Springfield.

If they said it was the 8th worst, I'd believe it. Why are you posting this false information? Do you want the uninformed to move here and suffer along with you or simply live in denial? I guess misery loves company. DON'T move to Springfield. It is a haven for corruptness, welfare and crime.

Check out the list of "great towns" LOL. More like, great ghettos.

3) Detroit-Warren-Livonia, MI: 339
4) Durham, NC: 166

I'm posting a link with actual information.

And I'm guessing you've been to none of those places. Durham, NC for instance is regularly in top 10 lists of best places to live and has a fantastic quality of life.

The hillbilly surbabanites that post on this board should move to suburbanite-data.com. They know nothing about real cities. It's amazing they have computers to post, maybe they are all sharing one Tandy out in the woods. The only ghetto in Western Mass is where the hillbillies live. Yee-haw!

The instant anyone says something negative about a place, its defenders jump in. So I'll keep my opinions to myself, except to say I don't think Evansville, IN, Detroit, or Allentown, PA would be for me. I have been to all of the above; I don't remember Green Bay or Springfield that well. Durham might work, but it's too hot there for me.

Agreed Katiana. I don't think Detroit is for me either. I've been to Allentown, it's not bad. Durham is very nice.

As for defenders, well - there's a few here that hammer on places like Springfield all day long - and god forbid someone defends it, they get all upset. They get even more upset when THEIR hometown then gets insulted. If you can give the insults, you should be able to take them too. As someone who has lived in Springfield for many years, I won't sit here and read things that say you'll get gunned down living here and it's a pit. They are posting lies, and should be confronted for it. Facts and figures are one thing, but calling entire cities "ghettos" with no information is just ignorant. Half of these clowns were probably here last night watching our fireworks because their po-dunk towns have no money!

Happy Fourth!
