looking for nice town near Fall River
I'm considering a job in Fall River, MA. My fiance and I would love to live in a smaller town (more importantly, community) with or near outdoor and social activities for active 30 year olds. I'd like to learn to sail and we both like kayaking and hanging out at the beach. We also enjoy concerts in the park, farmers markets, vineyards, softball leagues, etc. We'd start off renting and then maybe buy our first house with some property...
I've read a little about Westport, Marion, Dartmouth...thoughts?

All the places you mentioned are perfect for you. Marion may be a little out of the way if commuting to Fall River though. I would S. Dartmouth and Westport are your best bets. I'm not sure if there are a lot of activities in that area since I have never lived there. New Bedford has a nice wine bar called Cork. As far as actual wineries though, I'm not sure if there are any in the area. Cape Cod has 2 wineries I know of.

Westport has at least one winery, plus the Buzzard's Bay Brewing Co. I think Dartmouth has a winery as well.
Westport also has a nice wildlife sanctuary: Allens Pond | Mass Audubon | Nature Connection
And of course, you have Horseneck Beach right there.

Thinking out of the box a bit, just over the Mount Hope Bridge Bristol, RI isn't far away and is a lovely little town.

Tiverton and Little Compton RI aren't far away, and there are vineyards there and in Newport.

Dartmouth has a UMass campus there, not the main one- has a good reputation, and might draw some of the positives of a college town.

I grew up in Tiverton RI and both my parents and myself worked in Fall River. Small town feel with beaches, and a vineyard....I still visit often and see the changes with townhouses popping up on the Sakonnet River....something for every price range

Ya, Westport and South Dartmouth for sure. Padanaram is cool. Also check out Little Compton, RI.
