Default Hanover School System

Does anyone have any information about the Hanover school system? Trying to move to South Shore and Hingham, Cohasset, Scituate and Norwell seem out of reach financially. Hanover seems like a good compromise but I know nothing about the schools. Thanks!

I live in Hanover and have been happy with the schools. They rank high in the MCAS (Massachusetts Comprehensive Assessment System) tests in the elementary and high schools - the middle school hasn't done as well but is improving. The schools are safe and I haven't dealt with any teacher or administrator that isn't helpful. The town will be voting on building a new high school in early September - the school is very outdated. The state has approved a reimbursement plan but it needs to pass with the voters. I get the feeling that it will happen.

Overall Hanover is a nice town. I've lived here 6 years and it is a great town for families and is an easy commute to Boston and the Cape.

Feel free to email if you have any specific questions.

Katie

Default Hanover schools

You don't want to send your kid to Hanover High School. The building is so bad. The people of Hanover are too cheap to put money into a new building! If you live in Hanover, send your kid to private high school! Thayer Academy in Braintree is a great choice!

Hanover is voting on building a new high school at Town Meeting on Sept. 8th and a ballot vote on Sept 16th. It has been long in the works and, if passed (which I think will happen), the school will be built by 2011. Yes, the town made a mistake by not building the school in 2003 when the ballot question failed by 18 votes. I don't think the residents will let that happen again.

Yes Hanover finally is going to build a new high school. If your kids won't be in high school until 2011, then I'd live there. Hanover needs to clean up the dumpy businesses on the lower half of Rte 53. It looks worse than Saugus. Not sure why the people who buy the million dollar homes in the town tolerate what a dump rte 53 looks like with all of the run down buildings and tacky signs!
