Not sure if it's still there, but when I lived on the MA/RI border about ten years ago there was one in the Greenfield area of Smithfield, RI. If it's still there the root beer alone is worth the drive!

Looks like it is still there... the last car-hop in RI... Woo Hoo!
So I absolutely have to go there Worth a 22-hour plane flight.

Time for the car cruise! I remember going to A&W in Iowa when I was about 5 years old.

There is one in Vancouver, and that is a LOT closer (I am on the other side of the planet now), but occasionally returning to New England makes my day.

(Another obsession is 'Famous Lunch' in Troy NY... their little hot dogs are absolute heaven, though their 'zippy sauce' will come out of your pores for the next day or so. The SO banned me from going there. http://www.famouslunch.org/Welcome.html

I loved the A&W root beer establishments. Also there was a place on the cape called Dog-n-Suds that used to sell glass gallon jugs of creamy root beer. It was delicious. Also the Blue Bell restaurant in Newtonville that was there for decades. Whenever there was a special time happening we would all go there for dinner which was not very often. I even ended up being one of the best dishwashers they ever had.

I think it was the same place, but I remember 'Dog-n-Suds'....they made hot dogs cooked in beer!

(I know this is a MA thread, but Gus's Hot Dogs in Watervliet NY is also awesome)

Now I want a hot dog. That's all it takes. Just talking about them or seeing a show in NYC where they stop at the cart for a quick lunch!

Famous Lunch in Troy NY will Fed-Ex them to you (world-wide)!
I think the guys in India were a little bit freaked out when I had 100 of them delivered to us (they are only $0.60 each). You can make your own, as you can buy their 'Zippy sauce' (I grabbed a gallon). Then all it takes is the mini hot-dogs, chopped onions, mustard, steamed mini buns. Just make sure that you don't want anyone near you for the next day or so.

(Of course you can try to break the record for consuming the most, 38 of them in 30 minutes, but I really, really don't recommend trying that. 12 will leave you stuffed.)

That's a real connoisseur for ya! They sound so good. When I was young my mother would always make a plate of 6-10 hot dogs for lunch even if it were just myself. That way you always had the option of consuming as many as you wanted. I have never had a dog with any kind of Zippy sauce and can imagine the thrill. I love the mustard and onions though. And at my age I never read the ingredients on the package.
Having a 100 hot dogs shipped to you is living!!

Default Closed French bistro on Newbury St Boston

Does anyone remember the name of a wonderful French cafe that was on Newbury St in Boston in the late 70s and likely beyond? We were at La Voile on Friday and no one knew of it, so I assume it closed many years ago.

I can barely remember it but my Dad loved it - Joe & Nemo's (if I have the name correct). I think it specialized in hot dogs and had several locations in Boston.

York Steak House and Dog n Suds are still around, the Ohio area.

York Steak House has a "no tipping" allowed policy. Such a good policy. You can eat without being pestered by artificial-friendly waitresses.
