Default Stoughton or Avon

I'm about to retire after teaching college chem for 37+ years and my wife and I are planning on living closer to our youngest in Waltham. We're moving from Long Island, New York and have been considering various towns. Two that look interesting are Stoughton and Avon. We'll be looking for a condo that's reasonably close to shopping and within easy reach (about 30 min) of Waltham. I'm concerned about the quantity of snow. Can anyone share their impressions of these towns?

Thanks

I used to live in Stoughton briefly and I'm sorry to say I didn't care for it at all. Ditto on Avon.

There are much nicer towns closer to Waltham. In fact, there are plenty of condos there.

They're both fairly dumpy.
