I need new windows... is there a company you can recommend in Central MA?
We purchased a home the end of 07 and it needs new windows (it was built in the 50's). Still have single pane windows, they do have decent storms, but the old wooden windows would need scraping, painting, reglazing etc. I just don't want to deal with all that and would like some new energy efficient windows, that will help with outside noise, too.
I have done some reading on replacement windows and it appears it is not so easy to find a good company to do the job, instead of just a slap them in job. Any recommendations?
Thank you

We replaced 7 out of our 25 windows last year with Anderson replacement windows. The installation process was very clean, fast and customer friendly. The two carpenters did an excellent job, real pros. Here comes the but....it was waaaayyyyy too expensive. We paid $9000 for 7 windows (they were the bigger ones that slide up). The total quote for all our windows and one slider was $42000. Also they only have a 3 or 4 color combinations and could not match our wood trim. So now we have to stain them. Husband did 2 so far, apparently staining a window is a longer process (yes I won that argument ;-)). We choose Anderson because we thought these were top of the line, modern windows that would be completely insulated and energy efficient. I am not very satisfied as there is still a draft coming in when it is very cold and windy. That should not be for such a high price. I called and complained but you don't get a good answer. And it is the windows themselves not the installation.
Katzenfreund I know you will appreciate this: when I told the sales man that I like the German style windows that go in 3 directions and are super sealed (they come in 25 different color shades) he told me that they were "over-engineered" and that that is not necessary for a window. That is now one of my favourite phrases.
Also, my neighbor got her whole house replaced for $14000----yeah, yeah I know we got ripped off.
Good luck....I know it is a difficult process...

Ha, I WISH I could get german style windows, now those are windows!!!! I love it when you have them tilted in at the top and you get good air-flow, but no chance of rain coming into the room. And they feel so heavy and sturdy!
There are such price differences and if you are not an expert on windows, it is easy to overpay. Or you end up with shoddily installed windows and wish you had gone with the higher estimate.... . Can't win, can we? LOL!

We had a good experience with Window World in Marlboro.
