I am new to Lexington and I know the Minuteman Bike Path runs through town. My 8 year-old boy and I want to try biking it, but I cannot quite figure out where the best place to "pick up" the bike path is. We live in the Avalon at Lexington Hills area and I am not really familiar with the downtown area at all. Would it be best for us to ride from home to the bike path or should we pack up the bikes and drive to the trail. And, either way, where is the best place for us to pick up the trail?

Thanks!

P.S: And I KNOW the Minuteman Bike Trail has its own website and everything. Unfortunately, the answers to my questions are not there!

The path from Avalon to the Minuteman trail is probably a bit busy for an 8 year old--not impossible, but even at 30 my wife feels nervous about me biking on busy roads. Your best bet may be to drive somewhere along the trail and park. It's a path, so wherever you pick it up is where you'll be. When driving, I usually park at spy pond and join the trail there. You can also park in Lexington Center, which would be closer for you, but parking may be more difficult to come by.
