I can see the job thing being an issue. I am a surgical tech.. i assist surgeons in the operating room. I am in school for my RN. Since those jobs seem to be more of a demand then mine at the moment. We probably won't be moving until I finish... which wont be for 2 more years. Unless something come up. I am currently a traveler so I can leave a job rather quickly so there is a perk if a job at the cape comes available!

I am planning to move to Salem in the spring of next year. I've always loved Mass and have decided that I'm ready to experience some seasons and a change of scenery. I also have friends in the Boston area so it will be nice to be close to them as I haven't seen them in awhile.

Good luck to all of those also making the move!

I have to add to the "Not Brockton" chorus. There are a few towns in MA that I would never recommend and Brockton is at or near the top of the list. Particularly if you have a kid. Just....not Brockton, it's awful and shows no signs of improving in the near future.

Personally, I would not move to MA if I lived somewhere else. I love MA, don't get me wrong, but we don't get much value for the high cost of living we pay to live here. Old decaying infrastructure, pretty lousy weather in general, older housing stock, insanely high RE prices, heavy traffic in most areas you want to live, and for that we pay some of the highest COL costs in the country. If I was looking to find another area to live, I'd choose, what I call the "shallow south" (as opposed to the deep south); NC, VA, TN. They have seasons there, and the COL is much lower. Of course jobs are always an issue, and MA does tend to have jobs, but the salaries do not increase to the same percentage as the COL.

Moved to Concord, Ma. from Socal last November. Love the seasons including the snow. Love the snow as it is falling and watching my dogs play in it. Living in a condo I don't have to worry about shoveling snow or paying for oil heat. I was sick and tired of Socal with all it's materialism and bigger is better mentality. Every day the weather was like groundhog's day, always the same..so boring. My family and I worked our butts off to move to Ma. which is all listed here if you look up my name. I had a cheering squad from C-D Mass. routing us on as we got closer and closer to Ma. as we drove cross country to get there. Where there's a will, there is always a way. Good luck to all that want to move here.

I hope to be in Salem by next spring. But it looks like I will be making a stop in MI first. Family issues require this and I hope that it will give me a chance to save more money to finalize my move to Salem. It's not exactly what I want but if it will help me get there then so be it.

It's Massachusetts, same sex couples are nothing out of the norm there. Northampton where I am from has a large gay community. It's a very diverse city. Hyannis is a great town. I love Western Massachusetts and the cape areas. I stay away from Boston, too much going on there. You guys will be fine no matter where you go.

Why... we still dont know We just went to Hyannis for our anniversary. I have never been that far... and to be quite honest.. i didnt want to leave.. it was a very sad drive home. I fell in love with Hyannis the moment I entered the town. Sha has been several times before. I have been looking for a job there since we returned to Florida is July... We will get there eventually.. we are in our late 20's and are not into the big city life.. we are very much wanting to raise a family in a quite quaint little town with a calm natural feel to it. We found all that there. I was all grins for the 5 days we were there... can't wait to make the final move and leave Florida forever!
We felt very comfortable there as a same sex couple... Does anyone know how it is for same sex couple to live there year round?

I have lived in Southern California my entire life and I am SICK of it. I currently live in San Diego (grew up in San Bernardino County. gross.) and it is nice here, but it's just not "me". I visited Massachusetts and Rhode Island last October and it was wonderful. Well, some parts of Rhode Island sucked but overall, I just really like the feel of New England. I really enjoyed Salem.
Ideally, I would like to move to Newburyport and find somewhere to work in the North Shore area as well, although it seems most legal jobs (I'm a paralegal) are located in the city.
The only thing holding me back is money, and the fact that all of my family is here. It will be really hard leaving my family behind, but maybe I can convince them to move out there with me!

So, anyway...I'm just sick of California. Massachusetts has such charm and history. I really do hope to be out of SoCal within the next two years.

The best of luck to you monicad. I understand about the money situation so that is why I am going back to MI before heading to Salem. I am hoping to be able to find a good job there and save money since I will be living with my sister. As far as missing family that can be tough too. It is a big distance. If your family is dissapointed with CA you might be able to convince them to move. Just point out all the reasons why you want to move there. If they complain about having to rake leaves or shovel snow, tell them that there are kids who would love to make some money doing that for cheap. A friend of mine moved from OH to AZ and within a couple of years his whole family should be moved out here as well. I personally find AZ to be too hot and dry. It causes my allergies to act up (one of the many reasons I have decided to move to Salem).

For all of you wanting to move to Mass, I say Welcome to our state. I, on the other hand, was born and raised here. I have lived most of my life here and I'm ready for a change of pace. There is alot of beauty, charm and history. Be forwarned, make sure you have a great source of income b/c it is a very expensive place to live.
