Default PUFFLE Thought you may be able to give me some insight

Hi Puffle,

I read one of your posts that stated you moved to MA last year, with a child in high school and that your child likes it better in MA than his home state of CA.

Next Fall of 2009 I will be moving my son to MA. He will be starting 10th grade. I'm concerned about how receptive the other kids are at that age.

Could you give me some insight, please?

Thank you so much!

Hi Lauren! I am honored that you want my opinion. We have moved EVERY year for the last seven years so my son has had to adjust to a new school all the time. This was a little different in that kids were very welcoming to him and immediately invited him to parties, movies, etc. It really comes down to how your son presents himself being the new kid. Kids are pretty much the same everywhere. Some high schools have several different towns combining into one high school which makes it even easier to fit in since high school is a fresh start and new kids are always coming in as well. To make the transition easier suggest to your son that he join some afterschool clubs or sports. Built in friendships right away.
Where are you moving from by the way?

Puffle, thank you so much for the quick reply. I am moving from Georgia. I am a Boston native, who's been living in Georgia for the last six years. I am from the North Shore and my husband is from the South Shore. All of our family still lives there in the suburbs of Boston on both shores. We will be buying on the North Shore.

You mentioned that you've moved every year for the last seven. Was that all within the state of Cal or did you move your son in and out of different states?

Are you in Concord? Awesome area, by the way!
So, he likes living in Boston better than when he lived in California. That's encouraging.

We moved within Ca. for four of the seven years and the other three were Boston twice and Va.
Can't imagine living in the South..just my opinion. My son would never admit that he liked it here better, but I think he does especially knowing there will be no more moves! Not easy moving a teen after already starting high school but hopefully clubs or sports will get him adjusted more quickly. Good luck to you and yours.
