Default Longmeadow MA vs. East Longmeadow

We're considering a relocation opportunity to the Longmeadow area. After looking at the area we've narrowed it down to Longmeadow and East Longmeadow. We prefer the town of Longmeadow with it's quaintness, sidewalks, ease of getting around on foot or bike, but prefer the newer homes available in East Longmeadow. We're coming from a newer 3400 sq ft home. I've seen posts on various sites talking about East Longmeadow being the other side of the tracks and Longmeadow being snobby. I'd be interested in hearing from people who live there what they really think. Also, interested in your opinion on the 2 high schools. Thanks.

Default Longmeadow MA vs. East Longmeadow MA

Longmeadow does have some beautiful older homes and historically was home to the "rich and famous" of the Springfield area - doctors, lawyers, etc. Many of these huge homes are now sitting on the market for a long long time and from what I hear from buyers, need a lot of work to bring them up to today's standards. They also need a lot of upkeep. East Longmeadow is home to many newer communities. There are several subdivisions that are going up, probably with homes more like you are familiar with based on your present circumstances. I certainly wouldn't call East Longmeadow "the other side of the tracks" unless of course you've heard that from Longmeadow residents. If so, I would call that the snob factor at play.
