Default Things for kids to do in Northborough?

Hello,
We live in Atlanta and my husband is going to be working in Northborough for at least the next 5 months. We have a 4 year old and a 22 month old and he would like for us to come stay with him from time to time there. He will be working most of the time so my questions are:

1) Are there things for kids to do?
2) Is it safe?
3) How far is it from Boston?

Thank you so much!

Yes, very
3) How far is it from Boston?
40 miles west of Boston (about an hour's drive). You can pick up the commuter rail in nearby Westboro.
