How about renting? It would give me some time to get to know the area. I'd still be looking for the same type of place. Could be near a big city. The long story is that I'm going to be heading out in my old rv looking at different parts of the country; the denver/boulder area, San francisco and LA, and new england. I'll only be spending a few weeks in each place, so I wanted to get some feedback before I go, get some ideas of where I should be looking. Thanks a bunch.

For 200K, you can get a nice garden style condo in the town of Acton, MA. Acton is a very liberal and affluent town. They just happen to have a huge assortment of Condos along one of their streets. It's diverse in that there are a lot of Asians. I don't think you will find very many other minorities there though.

Your other criteria fit also.

1) It is very scenic and right next to Lincoln, Concord and thus, Walden Pond. The towns in the area are very New Englandy (outdoor, surrounded by woods) in their feel.
2) It is close to the city. Immediately off of a highway, you are 30 minutes from Harvard Sq.
3) There is no heat.

Actually, you can get a modest condo for a lot less than $200K in Acton these days, meaning a one-bedroom in a complex near 2A.
I think Acton is a wonderful community on every level.

Thanks for the replies. how about renting a duplex or house? I can do up to $1800/month. I have two big dogs and really need some kind of yard space. Thanks.

Hey, what about the Cardi furniture commercials...aka "Nirope"...how ridiculous! Remember the commercial they had a while back showing all three brothers in bed together...it was hideous.
