Question Plymouth, ma???????

Hi, i would love some feedback about Plymouth, ma.
i presently live 30 miles north of Boston in a small executive town of 9000 residents.
what is plymouth like?
crime?
school system rating?
is plymouth a good investment?
I know there is a movie production company moving there. the realtors are all over that.
any feedback would be greatly appreciated.

I wish I could answer your questions! I've been there several times, and spend the summer in Marshfield, a couple of towns north. I think this part of Mass is really pretty and country and undiscovered (compared to the North Shore).

I've heard nice things about the schools on this board. I suppose you could go to the city-data section and plug in some zip codes and see what comes ups.

Just to know. What did you think of Marshfield in and of itself?

I really like Marshfield. It's pretty big geographically, there are several different areas to live in. There's Marshfield Hills which is incredibly Colonial charming, North Marshfield which is more gentleman's farm-y, then there are the different beach areas and downtown, and the part near Duxbury. There are some AMAZING properties in Marshfield with lots of acreage and fantastic houses. There are also some extremely modest, affordable properties.

You can get a lot for your money down there, there is easy access to Rte. 3, there's all kinds of shopping, the beaches are really nice and there are a lot to choose from. The commuter train ends in Scituate, very close to parts of North Marshfield and Marshfield Hills.

We used to live in Cohasset, where in general people really looked down on Marshfield, said the schools stunk, that it was blue collar, blah blah blah. And one year Marshfield outscored Cohasset on the MCAs, so the schools are doing something right.

It's pretty diverse economically--you've got Steven Tyler mixing with the plumber's assistant at the gas station. And I think it's very pretty--lots of hills and green. It's country living, but there are some townhouses, and houses are closer together at the waterfront. Its a pretty laid-back, low-key community--the Cohasset/Duxbury types are frowned upon.

The center of town is kinda ugly, very strip mally, but there are a lot of stores there.... That's the one part of Marshfield that needs some work, but that has been acknowledged and attempted for ten years now....

Plymouth is a great town, I work there but live in Foxboro. If you want the ocean and some great deals on real estate then it is worth considering. The town is very large 100+ sq. miles with about 60,000 residents. It does have some problems, like a fair amount of homeless people and a nuclear power plant. The movie studio will most likely drive home prices up. The population is very diverse and is a good mix of Blue collar & White collar. The recreation & entertainment options are excellent considering Plymouth is really the gateway to the cape. School system is o.k. and starting to get better. There is a pending 110 million dollar new High school porject in the works. I suggest that you get a hotel room for a weekend and explore the town.

Definitely explore Plymouth. They've done some intelligent commercial growth, imho. While they've built a lot in the way of malls and industrial, they've kept it away from the "town proper" but still convenient. Just out of sight unless that is your destination. Living on Cape Cod, I prefer to drive to Plymouth than Hyannis when I need to shop. The traffic is much better.
I've been very impressed with how they've managed their growth balancing it with the history and character.

I lived in Plymouth *had a home there* for a few years. It was nice but snooty. I worked in Hyannis and thought everyone was nice there though!
My neighbors were snoot city!!!! As we were leaving though they did put the Shops at Plymouth in at Exit 6......which made life better!! I.E. Starbucks,TJ MAxx, Home Goods *(one of my fav's)..BJ's.,ULTA *cosmetics/hair product store,Children's Place..etc...

I will say it is better than when I first moved there!! It got more commercialized which appealed to me!!

The beaches are OK....I prefer going down near Falmouth on Cape Cod where we once had a home.....beautiful there!

Plymouth is snooty? It's still a working class town. I wouldn't recommend Plymouth at all - schools are mediocre at best!

Plymouth is a lovely town which I highly recommend. Many people there are refreshingly free of pretension.

^Agreed. that poster seems to have nothing positive to say about any town that isn't considered what collar. Clearly he/she has a skewed perception on what makes a great town.
