Default Newburyport or Ipswich??

My family and I (2 small kids) are looking to rent a sf home for 1 year in either Ipswich or Newburyport. I am having the hardest time deciding which town. My son has one more year before Kindergarten, but I would ideally like to rent in a town that we will buy in. I have heard Ipswich schools are better. True??

I haven't seen much on the board in regards to Ipswich...does anyone have any insight into this town. Ideally we want a family oriented town with things going on throughout the year, good schools, a sense of community. Is Newburyport to "touristy". Also my husband is Commuting to Boston but in off hours.

If anyone had any personal experiences w/ either town please share (:

Thanks.
