Default Fellow New Englanders-can't live with em'; can't hit 'em in the face with a shovel!

This is serious! I'm a DIE HARD BAY-STATER with a certain fondness for other New Englanders (esp. Vermonters, as my sis one by marriage, depending upon whom you ask...), AND despite their often ornery behavior.

I've BEEN to the South--to FLA many times (though no further west than Pennsylvania---okay, laugh it up!), but still, I HAVE been to Europe and the WHOLE time I was there...I felt this ACHE, this longing to be back...in Massachusetts....(Just hum that Bee-Gee's song and sing the song about the Boston Strangler only don't THINK about what he actually did, OK?).

DO any of you fellow New Englanders/Bay-Staters get this: that is: your fellows drive you NUTS with all their foibles (bad accents--but still nowhere NEAR as hair-raising as Kyra Sedgewick's or Reba McIntyre's!!! *shudder*!), passion for the Red Sox (though that's kind of MOOT now!), reluctance to say "Howdy" when accosted on the street by well-meaning Midwesterners, reluctance to make friends unless you saw them BEING BORN (or the video thereof--Nyuk!), their oddball politics (they SAY they're Democrats and then vote for a Republican Gov....that REALLY got to me!), or the division in VT between those for and "agin'" gay spousal rights.

And HEY! Talk about ODDBALL! How about people from Central VT saying that Brattleboro is not even PART of the state???! (They DO say that!). Or their weird law that says you can go skinny-dipping legally...UNLESS someone objects???! What is this, a wedding? Please!

Anyway....I'm trying to start a thread about how MUCH we love New Englanders (even you guys in Connecticut and Rhode Island...yes..I've been to Misquamicut!)...though SO MANY of their practices (YOU name 'em!) are just WEIRD!

I think I have a pretty good perspective on New Englanders being that my family is from Connecticut and parts of Boston, yet I've lived in the north and the south so I'm close enough yet far enough removed to give a good perspective.
I can honestly say that New England is hands down the best place to live in the US. Boston is the best city on the east coast IMO. I love NE. Everything about it. The awesome four seasons (hey no state is beautiful all year around, no matter what they say) the scenery, the cities, the country and most of all, the people. I've found people from NE, especially Boston to be very friendly. They're just real. It's a genuine friendliness, not the sugary-sweet fakeness that you get down south. I know a lot of people from NE are flocking to the latest southern state du jour thinking that the grass is greener. While it may be for some, there is no place like New England. Now that I'm coming back next month, I can say for sure I will never leave. Ever.

I just want to say, for the record, NO REAL NEW ENGLANDERS SPEAK LIKE THE KENNEDY'S!!!
I talk to people from all over the country and when they find out I am a born and raised New Englander, they all want to hear the Ted Kennedy accent. I tell them that first of all, I'm not drunk..........
