Default Looking for Info About North Easton

We're casually taking a look at North Easton Village, given proximity to work.

Does anyone have a perspective on North Easton Village, and the Town of Easton, in general? Is there a sense of community spirit and is it family-friendly? How is the recreation department and are there parades, community events (Christmas tree lighting/parades, 4th of July, etc.)? Do any negative elements in bordering Brockton affect Easton, like drug issues? Are the schools safe and headed in the right direction, academically? Any serious environmental issues? Is it a well-run town, governmentally speaking?

Do you view the downtown as pleasantly stuck in time, or is it underutilized and boring? We like the historical look, but there's not much in terms of shops and dining beyond the Main Street Cafe, hardware and gift shop.

The town looks nice with a network of streets around North Easton, perfect for walking -- and all those impressive historic buildings. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.

Moving there tomorrow, can't help with most questions yet. I'm not worried about crime from Brockton I've lived in and visited many nice places that were right next to not so nice places without problems- kind of surprising but lots of places work that way. If HS kids want to find trouble I suppose it is slightly easier, but eh. Driving through Brockton it doesn't seem as bad as it's reputation. Easton's school rankings look good and everyone we have spoken to is happy with them. If they change for the worse we will move, simple. Walkability(shopping) is overrated IMO, you still have to carry that stuff home. Everything seems to be a reasonable drive. N Easton seems fine for recreational/library etc walking. PM me in a month or two if ya want.

I have a sister and a brother who live in N. Easton and it seems like a pleasant, friendly town. They have the Borderland State Park, the Stonehill College campus, and plenty of mid-range houses in nice neighborhoods. I think there's an active sports scene for the kids, most of my nieces/nephews are involved in those. My only negative observation would be the typical teenage complaint about "not much to do," though honestly, that's something you hear in almost every town. Also, like many towns, there is suburban sprawl, which requires a car trip for nearly every errand. I would check the Mass. DOE for data on the schools. My last check showed they were middle of the road. Not the best, not the worst.
