Hi there - We used to live in Hopkinton and there's a lot to like. There is a family-run grocery store downtown Hopkinton, which is pretty good. I still liked to go to Whole Foods in Framingham in addition to get more organic goods but my understanding is that Colella's (the Hopkinton grocer) has expansion plans. There are some pretty good little family-run businesses downtown - Dave who runs the Hopkinton Gourmet knows everyone's name and always remembers my favorite sandwich, and Hitchins Hardware is a tiny little place but they nearly always have what I need instead of having to venture into a Home Depot. I was not thrilled with residents' lack of interest in protecting open space and the town planners did not seem to have a well thought out plan in some areas but that is an issue in a lot of areas (including Westboro, which is a nice down but a horrendously jammed downtown during rush hour). I did really like having easy access to Rt 495 and the Mass Pike and being able to hop on the train (there's a station on the Southboro/Hopkinton line). Schools are good and there's a pretty good selection of homes at a variety of price ranges. You can hike, fish, or canoe at Lake Whitehall and like many towns in the area there are tons of sports activities for the kids.
Anyhow, that's my two cents. Please feel free to PM me if you have other ?s.
