Default The Good Old Days... video of New Bedford in 1939

New Bedford is revitalizing its downtown area and has made strides in doing so. It was lucky enough to have preserved (in one way or another) historic buildings and the integrity of downtown is intact architecturally.

That being said, this YouTube video, taken by a couple on their honeymoon to the city in 1939 shows what once was and hopefully, what will be in the near future. Note the streetcars, crowds downtown and stunning architecture (most of which is still there).

This was great fun to watch - thanks for posting it. I love scenes from the past and amateur ones are the best. And New Bedford is really beautiful - I went on the New Bedford house tour last year and was really taken with the neighborhood. On some street corners it is as though you're standing on the corner in the early 1900s. The historic preservation efforts in the city are great to see. I'm looking forward to doing the tour again this year.
