Default Gardening(Vegetables/Herbs)

Anyone here plant their own garden each year? I do and was thinking that in tough economic times like now that people could save a lot of money by having their own garden. I've been told by several people that the family vacations, etc. this summer have been put on hold. I'd like to think that families will do things at home, such as plant gardens rather than travel to expensive amusement parks, resorts, etc, Any thoughts?
Where do most of you purchase your seedlings/plants from?

When I put in a veggie garden a few years ago I bought from local farm in Cohasset that grew their own seedlings. Holly Hill Farm. You won't be able to plant till near the end of may.

There's a big sale at the Lyman Estate at the end of April. I think it's run by the Trustees of the Reservation. My friend in Maine recommended it and I think we'll go down there together this year, because I'm going to do some serious herb and veggie gardening this year!

I am out in the Berkshires and there are lots of places to get seeds and sprouts but my favorite is Clear Brook Farm is Shaftsbury, VT. It has an amazing selection of veggies, herbs and flowers, plus their website is a treasure of information. Clear Brook Farm: Sites We Like

They are seasonal and won't open for another month or six weeks, but there is a path between my house and their farm. They sell the best local produce during the summer, including heirloom tomatoes, and exotic varieties of most common veggies.

Winter is more bearable thinking about being able to drive up there soon.
