The state has cut that problem out. We went from "smoking or non" to no smoking at all. Not a problem with me except in bars but still raising taxes to make smoking prohibitive to many????

Just use Rt 1 instead of 95... If you want to compare tolls, how much does it cost to go round trip to Logan compared to round trip to Maine?

3.50 for Logan trip.
2.00 for trip to Maine and back. This does not include the half hour to an hour of my life that I have to surrender to the great State of NH while waiting in traffic caused by the tolls.

The presence of the tolls at this location is nothing less than scumbaggery.

Guess Mass. should put up their own toll for all those NH people who live up there but work in Mass.' silicon valley, huhn??

They already did... it's called Massachusetts Income Tax. The 'powers that be' in Massachusetts better hope that NH never starts an income tax program. Do you have any idea how much MA would stand to lose if that happened? Even if NH's tax rate was quite a bit lower (let's say 4% vs. MA's 5.3%) there would be a HUGE shortfall, which of course would probably cause Mass to raise their income, property, gas, and of course....cigarette taxes. Hmmmm, isn't that how this thread began??

If Mass & NH residents can agree on one thing I would hope it's that we should get rid of toll booths. They are dangerous and cause nothing but wasted time in traffic.

LOL it certainly is how the thread started, Val! (two packs to go!)

Mass. wouldn't lose anything if NH started an income tax, would they? If you work here in Mass. you pay income tax to Mass. I would think anyone who lives in NH and works in Mass. would really get the screws if NH started an income tax because then maybe a person would have to pay both? Like if you win Power Ball, you have to pay taxes to all the states that participate no matter what state you live in?

I think what happens is you end up paying the difference. To use Val's example, Mass would only get 1.3 percent from NH residents, instead of 5.3. That would be a good amount of lost revenue.

Ah, I see now. Yes, that would definitely cut into Mass.' profits. I say profits because I don't believe for a second that there is no money anywhere. They can give this woman Walsh a job that has been vacant for 12 years at 200K a year all of a sudden? This Gov. Patrick is a slime ball, just another color.

Sure, and NH can implement a state income tax just for the people that live in NH but work out of state.... Talk about scumbaggery! People in NH that work in MA pay income tax in MA but cannot vote there. Taxation without representation...
