Default Moving to Revere/Malden line, is this area safe?

Hello everyone,

I always hear about Revere's bad reputation. I'm looking to live on the Malden/Revere line, near Salem Street, just north of Rt 1. How safe is this area? We would like to take the public transportation a lot.

Thanks,
Brian

That's one of the best parts of Revere, a quiet and safe area made up mostly of small apartment complexes and bungalow/Cape style houses mainly from the 1950's and '60s. Once you're away from the congestion and noise of Route 1 and Bell Circle/Squire Rd, it's just like you're farther out in suburbia than you are. Demographically we're talking predominantly blue-collar and still heavily Italian-American, but with some uneventful influx of Hispanic, Brazilian etc households.
When Revere's written up in the news for the wrong reasons, it's due to goings-on in the beachfront neighborhoods near the Blue Line and in the vicinity of Shirley Ave. Those areas are all on the opposite side of town.
Public transportation isn't the greatest out that way, but does exist. Bus routes tend to run to and from the poetically named Wonderland terminal of the Blue Line, with some service into Malden, Saugus, and Lynn. Your resource for all the "T" info you need and then some is mbta.com.

Thanks for your response, goyguy.

There are a few buses that go to either Malden Center or Haymarket that stop right out in front of the apartment complex we are looking at. They also offer a free shuttle to the same places in the mornings and evenings. It seems like the perfect location for us! (as it turns out, the complex is in Malden, which helps us with insurance and such, literally about 50 feet from the Revere line) Brian
