Luckily, most people in Massachusetts aren't right wingers. There are some but being in a sophisticated area like Boston, it's more left leaning.

Massachusetts started out conservative, very conservative indeed, since the Puritans were led by religious people. Church was mandatory, and freedom was limited. In time, the settlers got tired of doing what some elder dictated, and grew very tired of paying taxes and getting little but repression in return.

Boston was Tory, Cambridge, Arlington, Lexington and Concord were mad as hell and did something about it. It was called the American Revolution.

The price of freedom, most of us have learned, is eternal vigilence, watching out for those who demand we think as they do.

There are still many Tories in Boston, and Cambridge is still a hotbed of progressive thought. There are many conservative traits I admire and wish we had more of...balanced budgets, avoiding foreign entanglements, keeping Big Brother out of my life. But this fine philosophy seems to have been replaced with intolerance, suspician and a state of perpetual war and fear.

And what people claim is conservative today, is far from it. It is a thinly disguised attempt to make the US a theocracy and demand that everyone toe the party line. To that, I say"no thanks, I have a mind of my own."

I enjoy having discussions with real conservatives, it is the parrots who have inflexible minds who are a disappointment. As far as politics we have had planty of Republicans in the State House and Congress. Unfortunately, much of the former diversity of the Republican Party has been driven out over the past couple of decades.

Based on research by the Boston Globe; The north shore (Newbury, Rowley, Boxford, Topsfield -especially) are right leaning and majority are registered republican. The south shore, aka irish riviera (Marshfield, duxbury, cohassett) is about 50/50 and maybe slightly right. I am extremely conservative and these are my favorite towns in MA.

I say Marshfield for the most part is economically Conservative and some what socially liberal. Unless is really changed since I moved. Granted I'm there every month to see friend and family. No change from what I've seen.

Actually we (the people of Marsh Vegas) really could care less about judgment on most issues unless it effect us directly

Lovely towns, certainly. Though in my book, dull as dishwater.

Hey, if I grew up democratic socialist living in Forsyth County, GA (google it), you can live in Massachusetts being a conservative. Look at the recent special election. Democrat Nikki Tsongas, despite having such a famous name and being the widow of such a well-loved politician, barely won the district over the republican candidate. Local politics is a healthy mix of Democrats and Republicans.
