Health insurence in mandatory in Mass right? I know that you have state health insurence. So say for an individual 25 years old according to the affordability tool my insurance for me ($27,040 before taxes) is $77. So my basic insurance shouldn't ever be more than $77 per month right?

Understand that is 'catastrauphic' coverage, and most likely won't be of much use to you unless you have a major medical event. Aren't you a law student? If so, your school may offer better coverage. I would check around. Might as well get the most you can for your healthcare dollar.

Yes, health insurance is mandatory. You won't pay more than $77 a month until you make like $30k or something like that--then I THINK the premium goes up to $100, but they keep changing their policies, so I'm not entirely sure what the deal is at the moment. There are co-payments for prescriptions and doctor's appointments. You can shop around, but there's nothing out there that's affordable for people who don't make much money.

Check blue cross and blue shield. I found a fairly good rate there. It might be around $140 or $150 for you but will have better coverage and might be a $1,500 or $2,000 deductible.

As you get older, it will go up and up and up and up. Sort of the reverse of car insurance.

Mass makes it very difficult for sole proprietors and older retired folks with this law. I hope they change it soon.

Get the lowest possible. Better coverage ain't gonna happen. There are not enough primary care doctors in the state. It's a serious problem.
