Look at Hillary and Dodd. They seem snobby compared to Obama or even Edwards.
My opinion.

I love Boston living. I grew up in small-town CT, and I think that people would have found that more "snobby" in some circumstances.
I think its all about how you present yourself. I know the people at the pizza place, the dry cleaners, the mini-mart, the local bars (of course) and a few others. i am very good friends with a few neighbors. My brother lives in a very different Boston neighborhood (also def in the city) and enjoys a very nice community/neighborhood feel (except for the parking)! UGH.
Not snobby, I love it!

There are a few towns know for a high percentage of people who pretty much think the measure of a person's worth is the quality of his landscaping, the college his child attends, and the kind of cars in his driveway.
Still, the other side to that is that some people think people who are refined, quiet, educated, or wealthy MUST BE snobs - even when they aren't.

New England Personality?
Wow, I've read many, many opinions about Massachusetts in general and the "supposed" unfriendliness. I moved from the Berkshires of Massachusetts Five years ago and I'm ready to come back despite the miserable weather! But compared to the people I deal with on a daily basis here in Florida, Massachusetts is full of kindness!!!! Born and raised in the Berkshires with it's clean air, open spaces and diverse sites to visit I've learned that the saying "the grass is greener on the other side is sooooooooooo true" Many New Englander's are called "salty" in nature. They really are not being rude they just are a hearty bunch who don't live the "cool meet you at the beach" attitude. They are hard working, tough living and honest people for the most part. Does the dark, dank weather get to the human spirit? OF COURSE! But I'll take that over the miserable people here, crime, disregard for human and the animal life, concrete, polluted, and corrupted rip off government of FLORIDA any day. Despite where you live you will always find "rotten" people. The only things I will miss about Florida is the beaches, and the weather. The people that live here are from all over the world and rudeness is a way of life, not the exception to the rule. I've been all over this great big world and Florida by far takes the prize for MEAN..............

When I first moved here from the caribbean , strangers were shocked (they thought I was going to mug them) if I went out of my why to give them a hand...just trying to help here. They even wanted to pay me whenever I helped them clean the snow off their entrance and car...I would reply NOOOOOOO way.
And yes, I have found people to be rude and snobbish. It felt as only they would approach me to figure out what was my nationalilty once I started to speak. Then they would end the conversation. At first it bothered me but you get use to it and start to join the crowd... Part of the learning process.
