Nice family towns near Plymouth, MA
What are some of nice family towns near Plymouth? Great schools, low crime, families with young kids, new subdivisions, parks, activities and sport leagues for the kids like baseball and soccer. We want to be near (35 mins max from Plymouth) and want to spend about $700,000 for a newer house in a newer subdivision. Thanks!!!

To the North:
Duxbury
Cohasset
Hingham
Norwell
To the South:
Sandwich
You will get the most bang for your buck in Sandwich and Norwell. Duxbury, Cohasset and Hingham are by far the more expensive towns but have excellent schools.
All have what you are looking for. Not sure about the other towns but in recent months, Sandwich has seen an influx of home buyers that are moving here at least part time for the new movie studio.

Yes, Pembroke is nice ("nice" being just about the most subjective adjective one can use!), and so is Marshfield, Scituate, and Hanover. I know that many of these towns have plenty of new subdivisions.
I don't know much about Kingston, but that might be worth checking out, too.
I can't really think of any towns near Plymouth that aren't nice family towns.
However, if parks and town recreation activities are super important to you, you really need to do a systematic check of what each town has and offers. It varies greatly from town to town, and some towns are very well endowed in those areas and others, not so much.
It sounds like you're looking for a town that has a great deal of civic pride and spirit--and you're smart to look for a town that has mostly young families because when there are too many retired people in town all of a sudden there's no money to pay for increases in school budgets.

Agreed Pembroke is nice. I just answered on another thread. Pembroke does not have an identity on the south shore-meaning you say "Pembroke" and people say "oh yeah- I forgot about Pembroke". I think that's a good thing. A well kept secret.

Duxbury is by far the nicest town near Plymouth. I'd pick Norwell over Sandwich but it's more expensive than Sandwich. Best towns on the South Shore that I see are Hingham, Duxbury, Norwell, Cohasset, Hanover and Scituate.

I'd go with Scituate or Cohasset which border each other - Cohasset would be a bit more upscale - you may get more for your housing money in Scituate - but hey - Cohasset has a great beach.

Carver-Marshfield, Duxbury
I would highly recommend MArshfield ---or Duxbury they both have great sports programs I believe Marshfield and Duxbury are town rivals in sports
high school wise. - - right on the ocean -
halfway between cape cod and Boston-right on route 3
Carver might be another choice or Lakeville-
Carver is the home to Ocean Spray cranberries, country feel with lots of back roads, cranberry bogs, woodlands, etc.
Close to the Cape
and Plymouth
Btw, they will be building Hollywood East---Plymouth Rock Studios - in Plymouth
a movie studio :-)

Welcome to West Bridgewater,MA
West Bridgewater Schools
West Bridgewater Public Schools
West Bridgewater is a small residential town bordering on the City of Brockton, and located at the junction of Routes 24 and 106. This access along with availability of land has resulted in increased commercial, warehouse and industrial activity near the highway in this community which was once primarily agricultural. The town does, however, retain working farms which contribute to its scenic character.

You could maybe even live on the West Side of Cape Cod though I don't know which towns have the best schools on the Cape --(also you'd have ot mind going across the bridges every mornig) Not sure how traffic is down that way in the morning

Hi there,
Personally, I live in Marshfield and couldn't be happier. It's about 15-30 minutes to Plymouth, depending on where in Plymouth you'll be going.
What I personally like about Marshfield are its beaches and proximity to Boston. I commute to Boston 5-6 days a week and while it takes me a little over an hour in rush hour traffic, it'd be longer if I were further down the South Shore. The beaches are absolutely fantastic and we get resident beach parking permits that allow us to park for free and save money (after your $30 fee for the permit...)
One recommendation I would make to you is deciding whether you want a more suburban feel or rural feel. The towns you mention are a mix of both suburban and rural. From what it seems, it sounds like you want to have more of a suburban feel, with the sports leagues and great schools. I'd recommend Marshfield, Pembroke, Hanover, Hingham, Duxbury, Plymouth. In places like Plymouth, Marshfield, Pembroke, you'll get more for your money than in Hingham and Duxbury. On the other side, if you want a more rural feel, Kingston and Lakeville would be great options.
There is new construction popping up all over these South Shore towns! At the higher end of that price range, you'll probably wind up with AT LEAST 2500 square feet on AT LEAST 1/2 an acre of land. There are a couple of new construction places that I personally LOVE.

Lakeville would not be a good choice unless you're looking for a place in isolation. A lot more affordable than any of towns I'm about to mention though!
Duxbury, Scituate, Cohasset, Norwell, Hanover, Sandwich and Marshfield are all good places. Problem with Sandwich is having to cross the Sagamore Bridge in the summer time can be tough.
