Brewster or Chatham or Falmouth, Sandwich, Truro/Wellfleet, or P-town (Provincetown)
Stay in Chatham in the village. Its a nice village with neat shops, and things to do . Also convenient to all areas of the cape.
Brewster is a quieter town with less of a "downtown" center, more of a village feel. There's antique shops to explore, restaurants, gift shops, etc. and a general store. (all along 6A)
there's lots of bayside beaches that go way out with low tide, and you can get a guest beach pass from the town hall if you go to brewster.
for the brewster beaches.
Chatham has guest passes for beaches as well
Not sure if the Cpae Cod Baseball league will still be going on but you could go to some of the Cape League games (Free admission)
a bed and breakfast in Brewster somewhere alonhg 6A would be a good choice.
Finally Falmouth would be a good choice. there's a nice bike path (Shining Sea), Woods hole is nearby with ferry service to the Vineyard. (You could take a town taxi ) to the woods hole or ride a bike down the bike path - and get on the passenger ferry from Woods hole and bike the island.
If you don't mind being on the islands you could look into Martha's vineyard which has a number of options for more of a town feel there's the Edgartown area. for village feel there' s oak bluffs and other villages throughout the island. Menemsha area is farther from everything but quite beautiful. Also was the inspiration for Jaws.
Before you go to the vineyard, watch the movie Jaws you'll see a lot of sights from the island in the movie.
Nantucket is pretty cool too. But I prefer martha's Vineyard as there's more to do. Nantucket is more residential than the Vineyard which has more activities.
Finally , Sandwich would be a good choice . Its close to the bridges, so you could go off cape for a day to Plymouth or something
and there's a neat village there with a glass museum with glass demonstrations.
and such
Truro/Wellfleet area would be good spots if you prefer the upper seashore area.
Provincetown also is nice with a lot to do and a cool mix of people and things to do.
you can also get to Provincetown via - Ferry from Boston so you don't have to drive if you don't want to.
