From what I have heard, regarding friendliness East Longmeadow is a friendlier place to live. And people I know there with kids like it.

Is Wilbraham out of your geographical range?

Your original question is very good. i was shocked to make it from the worst part of Springfield to an accountant in Longmeadow within 10 minutes flat (and a good part of that I was still in Springfield, not even Longmeadow, and that was the Dickinson/Belmont STreet area) I realized that a criminal could easily WALK into Longmeadow. And while that may not be happening because of the constant vigilance of nosy, paranoid people in Longmeadow, I do think it would be annoying if you had to get into springfield or through it, you are likely to be going through a lousy section of town to do so. I think a lot of people there shop in Enfield (or whatever town is right over the CT border) instead.

I am sure there are a lot of nice people in Longmeadow, but the people of Longmeadow have a reputation of being snotty, I know someone from "Long-ghetto", which is apparently the less rich side of town. Imagine that, even some people in Longmeadow just aren't good enough for others in the same town.

Try amherst or northampton. I worked in Longmeadow I found it very cold and impersonal.

It's no different in Wilbraham. When I lived there 10 years ago people still referenced the areas surrounding Boston Rd. as "the ghetto of Wilbraham".

Not that Wilbraham isn't a lovely place to live but that type of insular behavior and snobbery is sadly not limited to Longmeadow.

Longmeadow is very safe but you have to remember it is a TOWN. Springfield does have crime but it is extremely blown out of proportion and distorted on this forum. If you are hellbent on Longmeadow then you will be fine, however if you are flexible you should really actually consider Springfield. The city is coming up lately, getting better. If you are talking about historic neighborhoods, McKnight and Forest Park exclusively contain Victorian homes from the 1880's to the 1900's and they are absolutely beautiful. Please consider taking a look. check out choosespringfieldmass.com
