Default Looking for someone with Boston Historical Knowledge

Hello and greetings from the UK.

I have come across your great site while trying to research an item which I have recently acquired. I have located some information but was wandering if there is anyone on this board with local historical knowledge.

Any help would be gratefully received but please don't spend too much time on it as I am merely researching this with a view to selling the item in question and would'nt expect you to give up your precious time.

I have an antique leather bag which is either a gladstone / Doctors bag or possibly a document bag. I have found a makers name of Nathan Neat of Boston and have found on a website that this maker ceased to exist beyind 1847 ( which ties in with the look of the bag which is verry old ).

That much I have already found out.

The intersting thing is that there is an address engraved onto the heavy brass catch which is 46 Beacon Street, Boston, Mass.

I know from googling that this I believe is now a church ? and that the building has quite a history as well as some prominent occupants.

I cannot however find out who owened the house for the period between say 1830 and 1847 when the bag maker was in existance.

It would be nice to find out - even if only to put a name to it but as I said I fully apprefciate folk are very busy and appreciate you taking the time to read this message

Kind regards

JY

I think i've found the info I need.

If the date of the Neat bag Co is correct then 46 Beacon Street was ownerd between 1850 and 1861 by Henry Augustus Pierce, a prominent merchant and ship owner. He was also Consul to the Hawaiin Kingdon.

He purchased it in 1850 from his uncle Thomas Cordis. I thnk thats about as far as I am going to get with it !
