Default Need Info On Weather In Mashpee & Barnstable Areas

Hi All,

Once again, looking for insight into the Cape. How is the cold and especially the dampness in the wintertime? Does it get cold and so damp that it gets into your bones.....brrrrrr? Do you think it's worse...say than in the Boston suburbs area.....we're about 15 miles SW of Downtown Boston?

You will find that our winter's are generally milder than suburban Boston and South Shore. Unless we have a really bad one...which doesn't happen often. We rarely call school because of weather.
This is, however, New England. And it gets cold. I still sleep with a window open in the dead of winter.

Thanks for the info Capecodkathy....but I'm more concerned with the overall dampness....as I've reached that certain age with more aches & pains than I'd like

OK, then! I think it's all relative. My Uncle, who is almost 80, finds the humidity in FL more oppressive than MA. But he doesn't like spending the winters here. Still, he's selling his place in Naples, rather than sell the place in Plymouth.

There's nothing really all that damp about 32°. The humidity on the Cape in the winter is nil, unless it's snowing or raining out, but even then, it wouldn't be called damp. You'll need a humidifier in your house to keep your sinuses lubricated. That's not damp.

When thinking of damp and raw regarding Cape Cod weather, I'd say that's more likely in fall or spring... a day here or there. Not 24/7 and definitely not the norm.

Hope this helps you some.

This is good to hear, I hate to ask if "winta" is as bad as people keep telling me when I mention where I'm moving to. Most people in Phoenix have relocated here because they hate the winters they came from. The most common question I get when I say I'm relocating back to MA is "are you crazy"?
I have to admit I am always wondering if it's as bad as they claim? Or if it's more like the heat is here in the summer, you just spend more time inside until the good weather comes.

It's July 6th, sunny, about 79 degrees, no humidity, very slight breeze. I'd say we MAY in a bad year have 3-5 days of sticky weather. I've driven from Cape Cod to Boston and experienced a 20 degree difference in heat and striking humidity. I'll stick with Cape Cod.
