I second CaseyB's suggestions. From the list of towns you're already considering, it appears that you are leaning toward affluent low-density suburbs. In that case, another town which might be a bit of a reach on housing cost, but would be worth checking out for the possible bargain, is Wayland. It's another low-density suburb, not too far from Ashland, and has a good school system, for when the time comes that school becomes an issue.

I suggest Walpole, where I live :-). Great location (with train), good schools, very family oriented and not so dense. Yes it is not as "fancy" as lets say Westwood but more affordable. I suggest you look at a $550000 house in Walpole and compare it to a $550000 in Medfield. (The house in Walpole will most likely be bigger and newer.) Then you decide what is more important to you.
All your towns on your list are pretty nice though. And I do agree that Canton should be considered as well.
I wish you luck!

Try Natick or Shrewsbury
Foxboro is a nice area but can get a bit crazy traffic wise when there's events with the stadium - it can be a mess. - just keep that in mind if you're trying to commute when there's concerts or football games. Luckily most football games are on Sundays.
Foxboro is a nice town with good schools and lots to do in the area. -
Mansfield is good as well - with a commuter rail in town
Other towns I'd recommend looking into are
Shrewsbury
Hopkinton- Excellent small town feel with a beautiful town green, Also the start of the Boston marathon . A nice downtown and state park too
right on I-90
Holliston or Sherborn might work as well
Natick could be another option it is more of a suburban feel but has some country-ish parts as well especially on the outskirts
there's a commuter rail in town with nice shops in the center, restaurants, cafes, etc.
could be what you are looking for
Good school system
Other options might be
Medway, Medfield, Norfolk, or Medfield
North of Ashland you might try
looking into Wayland, Weston or Sudbury
Sudbury is a great town with excellent schools
and convenient to anywhere in New England
Hope this helps
do some research on flickr.com (for town photos)
zillow.com for home prices
and google.com for town information

Ashland
I might also suggest you look into Ashland itself
I believe there's a commuter rail into Boston there too and I hear its a nice small town
second town after Hopkinton on the Boston marathon

I don't really like Natick it is too busy nor do I really like Ashland the town feel is not there. I will basically keep the ones I listed opens with the most weight being on Medfield, Walpole..

What about Hudson, Northborough or Westborough? Have you considered any of these?

I really do not like Hudson and Northborough and Westborough are too far north for me. They are far from my family and friends and my wifes school. I spoke with some builders today in Franklin and Foxboro about some new home plans, if I am going to live in these towns I should build the house that I want.
