Let's see "the water." Hmm. Scituate or Cohasset on the South Shore, or maybe Hingham (is Hingham on the water?)
On the North Shore, you have to leapfrog over Lynn, Revere and the like (and stop before Gloucester- water isn't everything!) but the towns up from there on the water are very nice. Again, in your price range, all you have to do is decide what you want.
Best wishes.

Brookline or Newton would be your best bet. Your 1.5m won't go too far in Brookline but you could get some nice digs for that much in Newton.

Newton/Chestnut Hill or Brookline are your best bets for quick commute to downtown and highly regarded school districts. Not on the water though.

For great public schools and located on the water, you'll probably have to go to the North and South Shore towns already mentioned. But now we're talking an hour or more commute door-to-door. You can probably find a great home on the water closer to Boston (or even in Boston), but you will probably want to go the private school route.

You can afford to spend a lot so you'll have some great options.
