Default Conservative small towns within commuting distance to Cambridge?

Hi Everyone,

I am moving to Massachusetts from Wisconsin and will be working in Cambridge (Central Square area). Are there any traditional, family-oriented small towns within commuting distance to Cambridge? Any help would be much appreciated (including cost of living and commuting tips!). Many thanks.

Liberalism runs rampant throughout MA, but every town has little pods of sanity. Seek them out. My favorite town is Needham. GREAT schools, very nice town center, beautiful homes. BUT, it's very expensive.

Try Seabrook, New Hampshire. It's right on the border with Mass, easy commuting distance to north shore, and is a great town to live in.

I think of most of Mass, especially suburban Mass, as being traditional, family-oriented AND liberal. I don't think you'd have trouble finding family-oriented activities almost anywhere in eastern Mass. Price will probably be a much bigger stumbling block.

I am willing to commute 20 miles, although I have no idea what the traffic will be like. Price range would ideally be $1000-1500; however, I am concerned about the utility costs. I had very reasonable utilities in Wisconsin and Minnesota despite our harsh winters (never higher than $100/mth). Thanks for your help!

I was thinking of New Hampshire, actually. My concern is about the daily commute to Cambridge. Would it be feasible (i.e. what would be the best commute, how long, how much would it cost, etc.?). Thanks!

Thanks for the info. Yes, cost is a concern - it seems that all of the rentals require first and last months rent plus a security deposit of the same. I have not encountered that before.

Cool Lexington or Concord?

You might look into Lexington or Concord as well. I know those areas can be Conservative - and are good for families. There's also a commuter rail from Concord to Porter Square- Cambridge where you can get the Red Line from if you would rather leave the car at home (commuter rail is from Concord)

I would definitely look into Bedford, Concord, Carlise, Lincoln, Lexington areas. -

Try COncord though its a nice town with all the history
nice shops and restaurants
walden pond is nearby for recreation - swimming
and there's - also two bike paths nearby, the Minuteman Rail trail and the Bruce Freeman Rail trail, plus the Minuteman Park Trail through Lincoln, Lexington
