Default Traditional New England Town Northern Mass/NH

I appeal to the fantastic tribal knowledge of Mass/NH natives in this forum. I work in Burlington, MA and I am searching for the classic walkable, white church, community common, type towns within one hours commute of Burlington,MA. I have checked out Pepperell and Leominster areas and like them..but they seem to be filled with older 70's splits, yuk, or way spread out, think lonely house on a country road. I have 3 young children and I want to kick them out the door and tell them to run down to the park and play. I vacation in Vermont and have stumbled across gorgeous traditional NE towns there. Boston and its burbs..Woburn, Billerica ,Winchester, Belmont ..are either classic suburban sprawl or wicked expensive and snobby (IMHO). I'm taking my time and doing my homework while its still a buyers market. Looking at a price range of 225 to 280...I know very low for the area, but why I'm looking outside the 495 beltway. Thank you again for all the responses.

I'd say you should check out Ashby, Ma. Here's CD's link to stats for the town:
