So would the consensus be to not look in Oxford? Thanks!

Oh, I should add my husband will be traveling for work between Northborough and Westwood. We are looking for a house with a maximum price of $225,000 so I know that the Westwood area is not in our price range which is why we are looking more in the Worcester suburbs. Does anyone know how bad his commute will be from the Northborough area to Westwood?

Oxford is nice, but it's a little further away from Worc. and Boston than what else has been suggested - and isn't as glitzy as other towns. But it's certainly not like Webster or Southbridge, which those two are towns to mostly avoid.
It's a little quieter, but is right on 395. I'd recommend a look to see if you like.

Whats your price range? Theres been a lot of different suggestions from Millbury to Southboro but there is a very wide range of average list price between these towns. Narrowing it down some by what you can afford will help.

You will definitely get more for your money in Oxford, Charlton and even Sturbridge but it will be quite a hike to Westwood. I live in Northboro and I'd say a solid hour to Westwood during rush hour.
Hopkinton and Southboro are way out of the price range of $225,000 - but there are a few real starter homes in Northboro - a few more in Grafton and Upton. You may want to consider Milford. It's about 1/2 way between Northboro and Westwood. A working class town right off 495 with nearby shopping and restaurants.
Would you consider a 2 family? Both Milford and Marlboro have a few on the market and your tenant could help pay your mortgage.

Thanks Concepts. I would really prefer living in a single family home. I saw some in our price range in Grafton, Auburn, Millbury, Oxford and a couple in Shrewsbury and Northborough. Unfortunately alot in the last two appear to be short sales and what I know of them it takes forever to close? I see you're a real estate agent, maybe you can shed some light on this?? Thanks!!

$225K in MA is tough.
As someone suggested, you might want to check out the northeastern part of CT. 395 runs right into 290 and the housing costs are lower. Woodstock schools are good. Thompson are not.
Pomfret CT too.
These are all very rural areas with very little traffic. But plenty of people commute into MA and RI.
Although they call it the "Quiet Corner" which means, obviously, there ain't much goin' on :-)

OP says her husband is commuting to Northboro and sometimes to Westwood (on 128) IIRC. If it was to Northboro, could get away with Woodstock or Thompson. But keep going deeper like Pomfret or Killingly and it'd most likely be too far. If it was Westwood, OP would most likely have to stay in Massachusetts to avoid a monstrous commute. From exit 100 on 395, it's nearly 60 miles and an hour (plus traffic) to Westwood.
My grandma is a real estate agent around here, and I'm aware there's a lot going under 200k in the area. However, many of these areas have schools which are mediocre at best (Thompson) and downright poor (Putnam, Killingly). Could find something in Woodstock in budget though.
