What is Milford, MA like?
What is Milford like? Is it rural, suburban, urban? What kinds of neighborhoods are there? Are there mostly smaller houses, newer houses, colonial houses? What's the downtown area like?

Milford is suburban in parts and urban in others. I live in a town outside of Milford and I (along with many other people) find it to be incredibly sketchy...especially in the downtown area. There are a lot of older houses and some newer houses. But if you're looking to move there...I recommend checking out one of the surrounding towns, which all happen to be a lot nicer. Dover, Hopkington, Medway, Holliston, Hopedale, and Upton are good towns. Bellingham (which borders Milford on the South) can be sketchy in some areas too).

I lived in Milford for a total of three months. It is relatively close to shopping areas but that's about all the good I can say about it. It is a fairly sketchy area and I would not feel comfortable taking a stroll around town by myself, especially not the downtown area. I would not recommend it at all. Medway is right next door and is a lovely little town! I would check that out if I were you!

I live in Mendon (basically next door to Milford). I agree with the others - seems to be sketchy in areas vs. the nice towns around it. Only thing I use the city for is a close CVS near my house.

A slighty different view: Milford is an immigrant and blue collar town. Highly walkable downtown area. Very suburban towards the Hopkinton borders. Significant Brazillian population. Also many Italians, but an aging population there - but some wonderful Italian groceries.
I used to walk around downtown Milford all the time - never had any type of problem. However, if the lower-class and the brown make you uncomfortable, probably not the town for you. Haven't heard good things about the school system, but no personal experience.

I have lived in Milford for 15 years and raised both of my children in the public school system. My oldest is in college, my youngest is a senior at Milford High School. The school system is excellent, my older boy is at a major college and my younger boy is choosing between Boston Colege or Georgetown. So the schools have given them an excellent education. No drugs, violence or anything like that.
Milford is a small town like any other. Decent place to live. low crime rate, lot of Brazilian and Portuguese immigrants but they are hard working people. The seniors are predominantly Italian.
Lower end is very commercial but upper side is all residential. If you like shopping and services, live in Milford. If you dont mind driving to get to them, go blackstone, Uxbridge area. You can find a cheaper house there but you have to drive through Milford to get anywhere. Traffic can be horrible in those other towns.
