Marstons Mills is a village within Barnstable. Barnstable, Massachusetts - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Sandwich would get you better schools, at least in the upper grades.

Sandwich is a very nice town. I lived in Bourne for 8 years but know Sandwich very well. I would say the nicest village in Sandwich is East Sandwich. Overall, it is a very nice and quaint town. There are nice shops and restaurants and it is very low key for the most part. Definitely a town on the Cape I would live in if I ever moved back.

Cape Cod is not a suburb of Boston. It's also pretty hicky in the winter. Lot's of druggies and alcholics.

^You really need to consider expanding your vocabulary to include more words than, "hick." Almost every town you've responded about aside from Hingham, Duxbury, Canton and Easton have earned the title, "hick" (or some other variation such as "hicky") from you.

Yes it is. Which is where the druggies came from.

And as far as the 'hickyness" s concerned, we used to love that "hicky" Cape Cod before the people from away moved in and turned the Cape into a suburb or Boston.

You'd be hard pressed to find real Cape Codders there now ..... they pretty much all fled.

You're saying that drugs on the Cape in the winter are due to Boston? I think you may be conflating your belief that Bostonians have ruined the Cape with the idea that there's nothing to do there in the off-season.

Sandwich is a wonderful town. People are extremely friendly and take pride in their community. There are definitely distinctions between the areas of Sandwich. East Sandwich is lovely with many old homes and quaint shops as is the village. The beaches and boardwalk are in close proximity. Many consider those 2 areas the most desirable.

There are also some less expensive areas with wonderful family neighborhoods and fresh water beachs. There's nothing wrong with those areas in my opinion. YOu can definitely get more house for your money which is a draw for many.

THere are cancer clusters and there are differing opinions on the causes. THe best thing a person can do is read the reports that are available and make an informed decision based on that.

Sandwich is not for everyone. It has an old fashioned feel. It lacks chain restaurants and big business retail and some find that inconvenient. I LOVE it. It's nice to go to a Mom and Pop store and get a genuine greeting. The pace is slower and many people from the city don't like that. The taxes are the highest on the Cape as someone stated but you get what you pay for. The schools are terrific. There is no trash pick up in Sandwich as someone said but you can hire a private contractor or head to the landfill to drop it off yourself. It's not a huge inconvenience.

Hope this helps

Wow, I've never been called a "hick" before! ROFLMAO!
Just an update on Sandwich. They are going to be offering full-day kindergarten with no additional fees and just signed an exhorbitant contract with their new School Superintendent, which has not gone over very well with the taxpayers.
CapeCodTimes.com - Sandwich school chief will earn $152,000
Two ways of thinking about these developments: 1. They're investing in education or 2. They have very little regard for economics.
Guess it depends on your point of view, but I would think yet another increase in prop taxes will be in order!

Exorbitant? If you do some research, you will see that the salary is average for a school superintendent in MA.
