Hello,

My husband and I are looking to relocate to Cape Cod from Providence, RI. We have a great interest in Sandwich, Ma. We would like to start a family and are looking for a friendly neighborhood environment to raise them. I do not know much about the town of sandwich... we are trying to get some good information.

Thank you for your help

Hi

Myself my husband and 2 children currently live in Sandwich. I have lived here for over 30 years. Our house is on the market as we are trying to move to South Carolina. Sandwich is a beautiful town with a good school system. We live in a great neighborhhood which is safe and 5-6 minutes away from the schools. A lot of tourist's in the summer but centrally located to everything. If you have any specific questions I would be glad to answer them.
Take Care

Default Thank you Capemom

My husband and I are going to look at a house on Friday in Rolling Ridge Farms near Lawrence Pond. What do you think of this neighborhood?

Any advice on the best areas to live in Sandwich would be appreciated.

How has raising your children been on the Cape?

What have the pros and cons been for your family?

We are just looking for a nice town to start a family.

THank you and good luck in your move.

Sandwich is one of the nicer towns on the cape I think, and is relatively close to the bridge, which can be a godsend in summer. Houses seem to retain their value nicely there, and there are lots of good family neighborhoods. My wife and I were thinking about starting a family down there as well, but it's so far from Boston we're not sure...... Where do you work?

The one negative thing I hear is that it seems like every year some teenage kid gets killed driving on those curvy roads. Capemom, am I right?

Dear Hookie

I worked in Boston for a couple of years and commuted from the Cape. It is a great place to raise a family. I work in Hyannis which is about 12-15 min away depending on traffic. In regards to your question regarding the teens and the car accidents. Our family has some friends on the police dept here in Sandwich. The accidents were caused by excessive speed or alcohol and speed. The roads can be a little windy depending on the road but when your doing 55 in a 35 with not much driving experience unfortunately you know what happens.

Hi Kimbakoo

Rolling Ridge Farms is a nice neighborhood. We live in Lakewood Hills which is also a great neighborhood. You definately want to avoid buying a house down town. It is too congested in the summer plus you then have to deal with the historical society. I have a brother that lives about 5 minutes from me in a developm, ent called Green Briar which is a family neighborhood. Raising our kids on the cape has been fine. It is a safe town with good schools. Our kids love going for stroller rides down town by the duck pond. Our town puts on summer concerts at the elem school under the gazebo in the summer. There is also the heritage Museum which has activities in the summer for the kids. The melody tent in Hyannis also puts on Kids plays in the summer. The negative things would taxes, house insurance and tourists.

I would say Sandwich is a great place for a couple with or without kids. I live in Bourne but I know a lot about Sandwich. Sandwich has the best school system on the Cape and since the real estate market has been going down the past 2 years you can get a very nice home at a reasonable price. As far as the nicest area goes, East Sandwich is considered the nicest village in Sandwich. Forestdale isn't the greatest place since it's located right next to the Air Force Base. Overall, Sandwich is a very nice town. There are much more year rounders than second home owners in Sandwich and it is just a really nice town.

If you want a cape like town without having to move all the way to the Cape, consider Duxbury. It's beautiful, only 35 miles from Boston and you don't have to cross the Sagamore Bridge. Year round on the Cape is pretty barron. I use to live there year round but was tired of the hicks!

Living anywhere on Cape Cod is like lving in a suburb of Boston. If I were you I'd stay in RI ..... people are friendlier in RI as well.
