ok! whew, we are here! kids are with the grandparents, and we are all over the place. Sitting in a nice b&b in Old Saybrook right now with a nice fireplace, a glass of enjoyable wine...and hubby watching the jets/dolphins game
Thank you all so much for your feedback. The good, the bad and the ugly have all been appreciated. It has gone a long way in helping us weed out some towns, and give others a second look. We have weeded OUT Amhurst area, Bourne, Marion, Wareham, Worchester and surrounding quaint rural towns for MA, all of VT, all of RI, and weeded out most of CT with only Old Lyme to still tour tomorrow. Although Ridgefield was lovely. (Clinton and Guilford, not what we are looking for) We are revisiting, and looking deeper into Sandwich, Falmouth, and Plymouth! The more rural areas of Plymouth are absolutely gorgeous, and the town center is really spirited, busy, friendly and inviting! There seems to be a lot matching our criteria there also. Also will keep an eye on Hingham, parts of Norwell. We viewed some houses out of the way with Scituate addresses but feel we "missed it". Anyone chime in and tell us where to go when we get back there in a few days to look again? We were in a hurry trying to fit a lot into a day and just didnt have time to explore. But i hear all the time what a great place it is, so i would appreciate some direction. THanks again to everyone. This family feels really positive about our move next summer. We are confident we are making a great choice for our family by moving to MA! Can't wait!

Thanks for checking back. Often you never hear back from people who have been on here asking questions. Sometimes you wonder how it turned out. Glad to hear you've found some good possibilities. Best of luck as you continue your search.

When the Jets play the Dolphins, much of New England roots for a giant storm to wash them all out to sea.

Glad to hear you got some r&r during your busy visit!

Just one note on Falmouth- I recently attended a sporting event and to be quite honest, the whole vibe of the town changes tremendously post tourist season and not for the better.

You might want to subscribe to some of the local papers or look them up online. I am pretty sure all of the towns you mentioned have "wickedlocal" sites that will keep you up to date on pertinant information such as budget issues, crime and even some feel good news!

It sounds like you already love the area. With your positive attitude, I am sure you will find a great fit in any community.

Since I live here, I'm curious as to why you ruled Bourne out of your search.

Hi Cathy, other towns mentioned just happened to fit our criteria better. After 8 years of thinking about where to move, 2 years of narrowing it down to 5 states, and then getting it down to 2 states and about 15 towns...we were in the serious business of "editing". Soooo, some just had to be crossed off so that we could concentrate our effort. We are looking for a little more rural, rolling hills type area...similar to the outskirts of Plymouth, Falmouth in parts, and today we discovered the CT towns of Chester, Deep RIver and Essex which also fit the bill. absolutely nothing wrong with Bourne

Cathy, while we are on the subject, could I ask you for the zip codes of the best areas of Bourne to look for a rental in. We would like to live within walking distance to a town center and shops. We use the bikes quite a bit, and would like to get around without a car on some days if possible.
