Default Company moving to Marlborough....where should I live?

Hello all,

I'm having a large issue here. My company is currently located in Waltham, but I am pretty sure they will be relocating to Marlborough within the next 6 months. I currently live in Watertown, and am in the process of shopping for condos in Watertown/Waltham (in the Moody Street area). I do NOT want to move out to Marlborough. I am a 28 year old single male and do not feel that "suburb" life is for me . I would probably look for another job in the past, but I do like the company I work for. I work in technology sales, and there are several companies in technology right on the 95 belt, another reason I'd want to stay out here in Watertown/Waltham.

Does anyone have this experience with commuting from Watertown/Waltham to Marlborough? I'd be eager to know what the commute is. I've always been spoiled with commutes, either working from home, or having no more than a 25-30 minute commute at any place I've ever worked. I have bad road rage!

Any advice anyone can offer would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

I would think you could take Rt 20 from Waltham to Marlboro and it wouldn't be too bad since you're doing more of a reverse commute. Better than getting on the highway, which wouldn't be so fun.

Agree. Route 20 is not bad going that way in the AM. About 30 mins from Waltham to Marlboro. The Pike is a bit out of the way.

I commuted from Waltham to Sudbury (the Marlboro side of it) for several years using rt 20. It really wasn't that bad. You can't drive too fast on rt 20, but it usually moves (unlike the Pike, etc..). If you have to go through downtown Waltham, I'd find a shortcut somewhere - the way the lanes are laid out at the lights makes everything go a little slower. I lived down near Brandeis, so I didn't have to deal with the busier part of Waltham.

Heh. When I was 34, terminally single and living in Cambridge, I was interviewing at tech companies in the suburbs. I felt like I needed a passport and shots to go to some of 'em (like Hudson, Marlborough). I remember interviewing at Stratus Computer in Marlborough or something and seeing apartments five minutes from there, and picturing myself getting out of work and being home in five minutes... and then what? (In those days, most people I knew lived in and around Cambridge, and there were a lot of outings for restaurants, music, arts. Never did drink at all, nor did my friends).
I also was not used to working days, Monday-Friday, after years of working in TV news and hospitals (and before that, waitressing). I had no idea how one lived in the burbs and got home by six and you were in Hudson or somewhere.
Now? I still work weird hours. I love living in a wooded town, peace and quiet and mutts. But if I had moved out that way when 20+ years younger, I think it would have been not so good.
