Hi All

I'm toying with the idea of moving and I would need child care from 3-6pm Monday - Friday.

I have no idea how much someone would charge for these hours.

It would be for one child, a 6 yr old boy - only during the school year. Perhaps a mother looking to bring in some extra income?

Anyone ever hire someone for just after school care? I would put him in an extended school program but I think that makes the day way too long for him.

Any advice/thoughts are appreciated.

Thanks!
Ann

Hi Ann -

We do the extended school program at our local public school and yes, it does make for a long day but is quite convenient for younger kids because:

- We automatically have afternoon coverage until 6pm when there are early release days
- There's no changes to who is allowed to receive our son and have no need to worry about someone having personal/scheduling issues that may creep-up
- We are free to add/remove days as needed (our program happens to be very accommodating)

As for our 3 year old, FYI that his hourly daycare rate is $7/hr and I would expect it to be similar in this situation since a 6yo should not be a lot of work vs. a baby.

Thanks, ScituateAl - that's good to know. My son has been in a daycare/preschool setting since he was a baby - so it's not new to him. I never thought about the scheduling issues with a private baby sitter - I think that makes perfect sense.

After school care sounds like the way to go. I appreciate the response!

Ann
