What about Quincy?
Live in a small dull small MA town now with some other Irishmen , thinking about moving to Quincy because it seems more urban. I'm in my forties, like strong communities and friendly neighbours, but not necessarily to be surrounded by just families, as I am single. I enjoy going to a neighbourhood pub, being able to walk around to shops, Irish dancing. Simple pleasures.
Can anyone recommend relatively affordable areas to rent or own in that are safe? Any areas to avoid?
Go raibh maith agat!

I live in Quincy. Most areas are affordable, relative to other inner suburbs, with the exception of luxury developments like those in Marina Bay. I looked closely at neighborhood crime rates before moving, since I'm a young woman who relies totally on the subway. Safe areas include North Quincy, Wollaston, Montclair and Merrymount. Quincy Center, Quincy Point and parts of West Quincy have higher crime rates, although overall Quincy is safer than the national average.
There are a lot of Irish pubs in the area and a large Irish population.
Oh, and to give you an idea what "affordable" means, since it's all relative, I saw a number of one bedroom apartments for $1000 or less, with utilities included.

i have been living in marshfield for a long time and now, also in my forties, am looking for a place in quincy. my mother just moved there from the south end, and lives in an awesome elevator building with every amenity you could think of either at her doorstep or extremely close by, including the train. that's what i love about quincy. also its much more stimulating that a very quiet, nothing happening area. there's a small city feel to it, without being crazy, and it has come a long way, in my opinion, from where it was 20 years ago, with a much more diverse community of people there. i also believe it to be a relatively safe area, though every place you go has its spots. i would recommend looking into quincy, in the quincy 'center' area, with its nice selection of restaurants, bars/pubs, and shops, etc., . .
