Default apartments in Wakefield or Salem

We were in the area last week and really liked both these towns. Are there any apartment complexes in either town that are easily accessible to the trains? Walking is preferable but a short bus ride is fine. We saw the huge complex by the Salem train station but that's too expensive for us.
Thanks.

I think you are talking about the Jefferson apartments in Salem, which are right next to the commuter rail. Yea, they are expensive...most of the apartment complexes are up in that area. Pricewise they are actually competitive with the rest of the apartment complexes.

I think Wakefield would be a little cheaper, would you be working/taking the train to Boston?

Yes, we would be taking the train to Boston. Looking at craiglist, I've seen lots of places in Salem that say they are walkable to the train and look reasonable. And big--at least compared to where we are now. Would most of these be in houses or are there apartments above the shops in Salem?

A lot would be in houses, but just google the address and you can see a "street view" or live view to see where it is located.

Hancox17,

Also check the Boston dot com site for apartment rentals in Salem. Click on Real Estate along the top then click "rentals" and you'll see what I mean, there's a lot of them on there. On this site when you put in Salem, MA., the rents are as high as $6,000 a month all the way down to $750 a month, so it's a good range and to actually see what they look like is even better.
