Thank you,
For my second post I will say Pitbull owners are selfish, ignorant and stuburn.
Times have changes, just like we don't ride horses anymore and now if you want to keep a horse like before there are rules. I'll go so far as to say these dogs are equivalent to guns. Guns don't kill people, people kill people, but we sure put laws in place for gun owership didn't we?
I am tired of seeing your "innocent" dog that has always been so good, suddenly jump the fence and maul some poor kid next door. And always the owner goes on to say "this is a complete shock..my dog was so sweet...that kid must have did something to provoke my dog...".
The dog is a natural killer, time have changed, people liver closer than they did before, time we put a rule in place to stop dogs from killing our kids because of stupid ignorant owners.
Thank you

You forgot cars and trucks. cars and trucks don't kill people. people kill people. If a car or truck is in the wrong hands it could be deadly. If your looking to ban something you could make an argument for anything.

But you are banned from driving a car or truck until you have shown you have passed a level of responsibility.
What if there were no restrictions and anyone could buy a plane and fly one around the country? Ban these animals immediately and make all owners get a license and special insurance to own one.

I see what your trying to say, but it would never work. you would have to make every dog owner of any breed get a license and special insurance. A lab or retriever is just as capable in killing someone as is a pit bull, rottweiler, and german shepard.

You have a point, but I would say deaths due to Pitbulls is at such a high these animals have warranted this special re-classification.
If they day comes when poodles are killing to the point where things must change then throw them on the list.

I'm not sure if you were being serious or not, but I was saying that people shouldn't treat their dogs like babies.

Wow! First of all, I'm definitely not selfish, far from it. Just like everyone else, I don't know everything about everything, so you could say I'm ignorant when it comes to some things, but not when it comes to my breed of choice. And I can be pretty stubborn, but that has absolutely nothing to do with me owning the breed I own. I have to say, that first sentence was pretty rude, and honestly, pretty ignorant.
As far as "pit bulls" (American Pit Bull Terriers, American Staffordshire Terriers and Staffordshire Terriers) being natural born killers, I guess you could say that. They were originally bred for bull baiting and dog fighting, but as you said, times have changed. Though people do still fight dogs, the majority of "pit bulls" are not bred for that anymore. Because they were originally bred to fight animals the "pit bull" breeds do tend to be somewhat animal aggressive and they do have a high prey drive, like so many other breeds. But, when properly bred, raised, trained and socialized, and in the hands of a responsible knowledgeable owner, "pit bulls" make wonderful family pets.
In temperament testing the APBT tests higher than most popular family breeds such as Goldens and Beagles. The "pit bull" breeds are three of the only breeds that have been specifically bred to be human friendly. APBTs are one of the most stable, people-friendly breeds in existence.

When treated well, APBTs typically have sunny personalities. They are very sweet, curious, intelligent, and clownish. They are noted for their outgoing, affectionate, eager-to-please disposition and their fondness for people. They adore attention, often relishing the company of humans and are notorious for their loyalty to their masters, even giving their lives for them... Despite the stereotype, the average, sound-minded pit bull is not a threat where children are concerned... APBTs were never bred for human aggression or guarding behavior; generally they only will attack if they perceive an immediate threat to their masters or families rather than seeing every person as an intruder upon their territory. They were originally bred against human aggression because in the pit fighting days the handlers had to be able to handle their dogs as well as treat their wounds, and if necessary, quickly pull the dog out of a fight for various reasons. Any dog that did show the slightest sign of human aggression in that day was 'culled', and therefore, not allowed to carry on its bloodline. For that reason stable examples of the breed are generally not suitable as guard dogs. It is important that APBTs who display any sign of human aggression are not bred, in order to preserve the stable and friendly nature of the breed, and equally important that man aggressive dogs are never kept.

"Pit bulls", like all breeds, can be wonderful dogs! Just like every breed, it really depends on how the dog was bred, raised, trained and socialized. I think the biggest problem when it comes to "pit bulls" is who tends to be attracted to these breeds. Yes a lot of people that get "pit bulls", get them for the right reasons, they are educated on the breed they own and they properly care for their dog. But, at the same time, many people will go out and get a "pit bull", or "pit bull" type dog, because they think it makes them look "cool" or "tough". People like that will carelessly breed dogs that shouldn't be bred to start with, they will abuse and neglect their dogs, they will train their dogs to be aggressive, they just won't train and socialize their dogs at all, etc. If people like that weren't allowed to own dogs we wouldn't have all of the problems we have today with these breeds.

I agree with you there, to a point. The "pit bull" breeds should not be banned, no breed should be banned. If we ban all "pit bulls" (and other so-called "dangerous" that are commonly affected by BSL, like Rotties, Dobies, Chows, German Shepherds, Huskies, American Bulldogs, etc) the irresponsible owners, and just all around bad people, will just move on to the next few breeds and do the same thing. Any dog can be made mean, any dog can bite and attack, and any dog can cause serious harm and kill! I do agree that certain breeds, the more powerful breeds, should be restricted, to a point. Working breeds, powerful breeds, high energy breeds, etc, etc, are definitely not for most people. I wouldn't recommend an APBT, AmStaff, Staffie, Rottie, Dobie, GSD, Huskie, Chow, etc, to most people. I know that if I had to do something extra in order to be able to own my breed of choice, I would in a heart beat. And I'm sure that true lovers of these breeds, that want to own these breeds for the right reasons, won't mind doing some extra things to own their breed. I think that restricting who can own certain breeds is a wonderful idea, but bans are a horrible idea! Bans will only cause a false sense of security. As I have said before, we need to...
-Put a stop to leash law violations...Higher penalties for owners who violate the leash law will dissuade more people from slacking on their duties to contain their dog
-Strengthen and enforce penalties for dangerous owners (and their dangerous dogs)
-Crack down on dog fighting
-Strengthen animal abuse laws
-Prevent criminals from owning dogs...The following people should not be allowed to own dogs: drug dealers, human or animal abusers, and anyone convicted of a violent offense (assault, rape, robbery, etc.)
-Regulate breeders
-Fund public spay/neuter initiatives...These programs are important, especially low-cost ones. Unneutered dogs, particularly males, are far more likely to attack a human than either neutered males or spayed females.
-Educate about dog behavior ( http://www.hsus.org/pets/pet_care/do...dog_bite_free/)
-Encourage responsible dog ownership
-Provide low-cost obedience training classes and behavior help hotlines for dog owners

Pitbulls are an agressive breed of dog...but that is not to say they are dangerous. Pitbulls require more training, supervision, and control than other breeds, and when they are given the appropriate training and attention they can be one of the most loving, and gentle breeds alive.
People who are responsible have well behaved dogs, regardless of the breed

Breed specific legislation is plain wrong. Certain people believe the hype and train animals in a negative manner and some people are naive to an animals intelligence and believe what they are told. The numbers speak for themselves. People are attacked in America more often by "family friendly" dogs like Labradors and retrievers than pit bulls or rotties. The news only shows what will get your attention. Anyone who has been a responsible owner of these "dangerous" breeds has more positive than negative stories about the animals they love. It all falls into being responsible. Guns don't kill people. People do. You might not need a fully automatic weapon, but in the wrong hands a .22 caliber can be just as dangerous if not more. If we believe breed specific legislation we could say that a man is a mirror image of the bad things his ancestors did, and we know thats not true.

I agree with most of what you have to say, but as far as pit bulls being bred to fight is incorrect. The fighting aspect came into play as an ego issue with theur owners saying my dog is stronger than yours. They were bred to literally keep bulls in their pits, hence the name. But in the 1800's that is what they did. There was no ASPCA or animal rights. I have owned many pits and have never fought my dogs, and in no way condone it, but if you look at the original rules of dog fighting it is more tame than you are led to believe. Yes animals did get hurt and sometimes died, but that was not their goal. The owners still wanted a healthy dog to put to work in the pits on Monday morning. And once again I do not fight dogs and think it is horrible, but having a complete understanding of why people did things is important.
