Default Living in Revere

We are thinking of moving to Revere. We found a great apartment right by the beach. However, we've been hearing around that Revere isn't very safe. Could someone help us out please?

Thanks!

Are you from MA?? Do you know anything about Revere,,,,,do not move there blindly, esp. if you are not from the neighborhood. It is a tough town,,,,,,,,but still has a lot of good people. My kids were born there and lived there a lot of years, it has changed a lot.

HI, we live in Revere right across the beach, we love it, we just don't like the cold MA winters.
Our son goes to school here, never had any problems, Revere is VERY diverse, but if you have no problems with this then it's ok.
There are also good catholic schools around and some other private schools our son goes to the Magnet here in the corner he loves it education is great.
( me and my husband are pretty educated people m y husband has 3 masters from Boston University so when we say good education we mean it!)
Never had any incidents with unsafeness. Today one of my neighbors said she went to the beach and left her $600 Burberry dress while she went for a walk and someone took it! but this is unusual, anyway it was a Burberry dress, I think is kind of stupid leaving something like that in the beach ha ha.
We also live next to the T, we go intown all the time, we love the city and come back late no problem.. SAFE in 9 years here never any problems. Hope this helps.

I've lived in revere my whole life. 20 years. Revere comprises of 80% white and the rest is mixed. The only area that could be more unsafe is the area on shirley ave. I live in west revere which is a very nice area of revere and is very convenient. It's down the street from northgate shopping which has a cvs and some other small convenient stores, its right next to the movie theaters which was newly renovated a few years back, its right next to route one where you can find about a million stores on whetehr its a mall or about 50 resturants, its also a couple mins from revere beach which is being recreated with new complexes and a beach cleanup but a great place for soe good pizza, roast beef and ice cream!! I love revere and couldnt move far from there, if you are wondering about the property, my famioly has a nice home appraised for $800,000 so you can see revere is not a run down poor city at all, quite the contrary, if your looking to purchase a house they run around 500,00 and up for average, above average house. However, you will not find anythign less that 350,00. Hope this helps, oh and yes.. theyu education is phenomenal in boston, we are about 5 miles from downtown boston.

I don't know about that ... $800k in Revere? There's only 1 house listed in Revere for over $750k out of 500 homes for sale. Also, the median price of a single family home for sale is listed at $359,900 so there will be plenty of places for under $350k.

We are thinking about moving from Waltham to Revere. Is the area around Broadway nice and safe?

Default hell no

Revere is not very safe at all. especiallly on the beach in the summer. the shirley ave area (which is one of the worst areas in the city) runs right down onto the beach. the beach gets flooded with gang members and the police are there every day with the dogs sniffing for drugs. also people get stabbed or worse very often in the summer. the Broadway area has gang problems too. the largest housing projects (rose and coolidge street) in the city are right off of broadway. i hear stories all the time about people getting robbed and drugs being sold everywhere in the city. the only nice parts are West revere(which ironically borders the coolidge street projects), Point of Pines, and the condos on the beach. but no matter where you live the crime affects you. those nice areas only offer nice housing, nothing else. the point of pines is the only really safe part but the houses are very expensive because it is right on the beach. i'm currently trying to move out because of all the problems. i just don't want anyone else to have to move again after seeing what i'm talking about. the city never used to be like this, but just look at the crime report in The Revere Journal(local newspaper). Guns, drugs, gangs, B&E, armed robbery. it is out of control. hope i could help your situation : )

I have lived here my entire life, 48 years. The city has changed quite a bit, but still remains like any other city in terms of safety and diversity. My street is great, no problems, but if you go a few blocks away, then you may have a different story. Great beach, oldest public beach in the US. We are looking to move to Fla. sometime sooner, rather than later, just because we are tired of the winters up here. Anyone interested in a great two family, that has been well taken care of with an in-ground pool???

Trying again...my first post didn't quite make it. I see a mixed lot of responses here about Revere. My husband and I would like to move to MA or southern NH. I grew up in Acton, my Dad is from Scituate....But.. I am a teacher and my husband is a musician..so we are not made of money at all. Looking at the web, I saw a few houses in Revere that were below $160,000..that did not look like dumps. One was near Revere Beach the other could see the beach from the deck. Others..didn't stand out as much. Since we are looking at housing within 30 miles of Boston for my husband's musical career..which cities do you suggest that are not only for the upper and upper middle income brackets? I guess we are middle to lower middle here in Virginia Beach.

When you are talking about Revere, you have to ask: West Revere or East Revere. East Revere is near the beach, very hectic I have to say. West Revere is a nice place to live. Very quiet and nice people.
