Any one could help me on this:
I just got a ticket for expired registration last night. I checked on RMD website:my registration status with RMV is ACTIVE. I also have an evidence of paying the renewal fee. It means, I did renew but I never receive the sticker/new registration. I heard that it could carry points to my car insurance? Please advice what to do. Thanks

PS: the ticket was given when the car parked on street.

Very quickly get a new registration sticker. Call up the RMW on Monday and see if they will send you a replacement by mail. Have your proof of renewal handy. Then once you get your new registration in hand, on the violation ticket you got, ask for a hearing. Also include a letter explaining that the new sticker is now on your car. Send a photocopy of your new registration. Either they will dismiss your ticket by mail (good) or give you a hearing and then most likely dismiss your ticket. But a hearing will cost you $25... it's a new fee thanks to our governor.

But next time, be more diligent about renewing your registration. The police officer only gave you the ticket because you didn't have a current registration sticker on your car (which is a different colour than the old one). It's not the officer's fault that you renewed your registration but didn't follow through to make sure you got your new one in the mail and then to put on the new sticker.

BTW check your drivers license expiration date right now and put the date on your calendar... as the RMW no longer sends out renewal notices for drivers licenses.

If you renewed your registration on line, the receipt is also good for proof of registration for 30 days from the renewal date. If this is the case, I believe one is sent in an email, print it.
