Woburn isn't that bad at all. Its in a great location and has a good mixture of people. It has a larger hispanic, brazailian population, but thats what makes the city good. The city has a nice city square with lots of services, shops, gas stations, cafes, a bowling alley, bus stops, and shops. The traffic on 38 in rush hour can be a pain with all the traffic lights, but once you learn the back roads through Woburn to the highways and such you'll find it much easier. There's a great pond called Horn Pond a lot of people walk or jog around - also people walk their pets there. Its close to everything and has the option for commuter rail into Boston at Anderson station. - there's some express commuter trains from Woburn-North Station and also some local trains. You can get the Logan Express from Woburn to Logan Airport and the Manchester Airport shuttle to Manchester Airport and the Amtrak to Maine. (Downeaster)
Woburn is right on Route 93 and 128 which makes it convenient to anywhere in Boston.

The schools are not the best, but are decent....(i.e they are above average) and there's a lot of things to do in the community and surrounding area.

Enjoy

There really is nothing wrong with Woburn beyond the fact that it does not have a very attractive look or feel to it.
You are probably seeing low rents because the rental properties are not very nice, in the past it was very working class. However, the location is excellent and the city itself is pretty safe.

Woburn is mediocre. It's fairly safe but I wouldn't call it very safe. Some desirable sections, mostly undesirable IMO. Most every town surrounding it is nicer.

Aren't those "street view" maps on google years old? Seems like the last one I looked at there were women with beehives and neon light signs to every store front. In another one I swear I saw Andy and Opie toting fishing poles.
